hello
website in reference claims their pics are just for no commercial usage. In this case they can't be uploaded here because the license may allow redistribution include commercial use.
Thanks to clarify or ask deletion of this file.

Image Tagging Image:Alter_Rheinkran_Bingen.JPG
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Alter_Rheinkran_Bingen.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. __ ABF __ ϑ 15:40, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hi Gun Powder Ma, I noticed that you have moved Tre Cime di Lavaredo to Drei Zinnen. This is the opposite direction as was decided for the corresponding categories (discussion here). I do not have an opinion regarding the correct name, but page and category should go the same direction. So I would like to ask you to revert this move. thanks --Herzi Pinki (talk) 09:28, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Parasols and umbrellas
editHi! Parasols are not uncommon in Magna Graecian pottery. Unfortunately, I don't think we have pictures of those vases on Commons. If you know people who can take pictures in the British Museum, I can give you some refs. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 12:09, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled for umbrellas and sunshades on Greek vases. I may be going to Berlin this year, so I'll try to shoot that vase again. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 18:26, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
cycles in categories
editHi Gun Powder Ma, according to Category structure in Wikimedia Commons there should be no cycles in the category tree. Categories form a containment relationship. If Category:Martelltal is contained in Category:Martell, South Tyrol and Category:Martell, South Tyrol is contained in Category:Martelltal, the conclusion is
- either this is a cycle, which is not wanted by convention, policies and logic. In that case one of the containments has to be removed.
- or Category:Martelltal and Category:Martell, South Tyrol are alias names for the same object. Then one of them is obsolete and should be changed to a redirect.
What would be your proposal to solve this?
BTW: Category:Martelltal should be changed to Category:Martell valley? --Herzi Pinki (talk) 21:13, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, fine with me, let's remove the cycle then. As for the category names, there is somewhere a certain regulation which stipulates that category names should be in English (while article names in the respective local languages), but it is not really enforced, since there is currently still no consensus. Personally, I prefer English names for cats, but in cases where no widespread English name seems to exist, the local name may be preferred. This may be the case with "Martell Valley". Btw, Martelltal and Martell are from a logical point two different entities, the former a valley, while the later is municipality in the valley. Better to keep both cats, since - as with other similar cases - I am not sure whether both are absolutely identical down to the last square metre. Rename
editHi - I think Foroa was pointing to the explanation regarding disputed renames further up at the Delinker page. If a rename is contentious (as some of the ones you proposed now automatically have become, with you and Foroa disagreeing), you should make individual {{move|Category:Target|Explanation}} requests on these category pages, and discuss the pro and con there. 125.236.217.145 20:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, I gave my reasons briefly here: Category talk:Tiberius bridge in Rimini. Part of the problem stems from the fact that Foroa seems to be not even aware that place names are generally put into brackets in case of bridges (in fact, for all things; only if we are dealing with two locations, like in London, Great Britain, a comma is employed). Maps of South Tyrol
editHi Gun Powder Ma. In the Category:Maps of South Tyrol you have the under-Category:Maps of municipalities of the province of South Tyrol where all the maps are of the municipalities in theyr german names. Now in the category Maps of South Tyrol, you have maps of South Tyrol and then a lot of maps of the same municipalities of South Tyrol but in their italian names. So I created the under-Category:Maps of municipalities of the province of Bolzano where to put all this yellow maps. I don't think that this is a problem. You know that Province of South Tyrol = Province of Bolzano. Best regards, --DenghiùComm (talk) 22:56, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Commons WikiProject Dacia
edit--Codrin.B (talk) 03:47, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks sooo much for the Category:Trajan's Column - Cichorius Plates!--Codrin.B (talk) 03:47, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- You are welcome. It was quite an effort, but the reliefs are of paramount importance to ancient history and, of course, that of Dacia. What you could do is translating all captions (in the image summaries called "title") into Romanian, which I assume is your mother tongue. Note that the English captions are a faithful translation of the original German ones by Cichorius. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 09:49, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- I can imagine the work behind it. I was planning to add the Romanian descriptions eventually. Also, each individual image would benefit from having the narrative from the Trajan's Column - Cichorius Plates gallery inside its description since most users don't know about the gallery but they get to the images first. I did many times and had to search around to figure out the scene description. Another thing I have in mind is a previous and next navigation, as in this book example: File:Oskar Panizza - Der Illusionismus und Die Rettung der Persönlichkeit - Seite 02.jpg. I would be very helpful to navigate around. There is also one thing that confuses me: it is possible to see another Roman number inside most of the pictures which is out of sync with the name of the picture. For example: File:056 Conrad Cichorius, Die Reliefs der Traianssäule, Tafel LVI.jpg has Tafel LVI (i.e. 56) but if you look at the image, you can see LXXVI (i.e. 76). Let alone there is another numbering scheme at the bottom of some images. I guess they were done by the museum/casts? But then these are not the actual Cichorius plates? --Codrin.B (talk) 21:23, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Codrin. Sorry for the late reply. First, I have to say I am unhappy with how the relief descriptions by Cichorius (German) and Frank & Lepper (English translations from Chichorius) which I used for all plates were later swapped by some user when he replaced my original template with the current one. This had the effect that today these descriptions are subsumed erroneously under "title", while the field "description" contains the general title, but I haven't found time yet to undo this change with the necessary scrupulousness. Now to your points:
- Not sure what you mean with narrative. The captions on Trajan's Column - Cichorius Plates are identical with the "titles" of the individual images. Each image, moreover, contains a link to the page under "File usage on Commons".
- Previous and next navigation: you have my support here
- This is the actual and complete set of the Cichorius plates. The faint "LXXVI" actually refers to the scene, not the plate. Many of the plates in Cichorius categorization system which I have reproduced faithfully contain more than one scene. In the "title" you find the captions sorted by scene which is always given in brackets. As for the third numbering system, in this case "201", "202", "203", I have to inform myself about it, but in any case it is of ephemeral importance.
- If you are interested in the original documentation by Cichorius and Frank & Lepper send me an e-mail. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 10:40, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the detail and all clarifications. The numbering schemes makes sense now, but for the unadvised user, it might be great to write this in the gallery itself as a note.
- When I was talking about the narrative missing, I must have spotted some images which don't have the detailed descriptions from the gallery. But right now, I couldn't find an example to show you. I will send one if it comes up.
- Regarding the swapped "title" and "description", I noticed that. It was done by a bot: User:JarektBot, probably using AWB, which could also be used to swap them back. I will drop a note to the user, to see if it can be easily swapped automatically. But I think the intention was good. {{Artwork}} is a great template for archaeological objects and art. I don't know how {{Reliefs of Trajans Column}} was, since it was deleted, but maybe, if it makes sense, a new version could be created based on {{Artwork}}. Or maybe a combination {{Artwork}} and {{Book}} as I did for Category:Danubius Pannonico-Mysicus. See File:Ardea Cinerea in Danubius Pannonico-Mysicus 1726 by Marsigli.jpg for an example. I assume the original {{Reliefs of Trajans Column}} was based on {{Information}} but is just a guess.
- I will send you an e-mail. Would love to have that documentation.
Thanks!--Codrin.B (talk) 15:57, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- I merged titles and descriptions of files in Trajan's Column - Cichorius Plates and placed them in description field. Two multilingual fields with 2 halves of the message were too confusing. Hopefully it is OK now. If not let me know and I will try to fix it again. --Jarekt (talk) 18:37, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
It looks nice. Updating to {{Creator}} for Apollodorus and using institution is neat too. Not sure if search engines or commons search will benefit from having a "title" field with a brief description, but looks ok to me. Are you using a bot or AWB directly for these kinds of changes? Would love to get some of your scripts\replacement rules.--Codrin.B (talk) 19:38, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- I was using AWB for this task, but after I was done I deleted all the en:regexp rules I used. As I recall The key portion was "([^\}]*)" used to match strings inside {{...}} brackets for example "\{\{en\|([^\}]*)\}\}" will match strings inside {{En}} as long as no templates were used inside. if you ever need help with any AWB regexp rules I will be happy to help. --Jarekt (talk) 20:10, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
The summary box looks now better arranged, but I still have a couple of improvements in my mind which I exemplarily executed in plate 56:
- arranging sculpture and graphics consistently in all field one below the other
- removing the quotation marks from the scenes (the plates don't have them either)
- unlinking "bas-relief" (-> overlinking)
- Tafeln 1-57 --> Tafeln 1–57 (respectively Tafeln 58–113 for the second half of the images)
- due to the collapsible infoboxes we still have double links for both en:Trajan's Column and de:Conrad Cichorius, but I do not know how to avoid them
Gun Powder Ma (talk) 10:05, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- I changed your bullets to numbers for easier referencing. In general I am confused about your concerns about "overlinking". I have never run into that term before and usually encounter much too few links than too many. For example why would you want to remove link from link "bas-relief" (#3)? It is not widely known term. I also do not understand your last concern (#5) about double links, since I do not think that is an issue. I think #1 is a good idea to add a few <br/> but I would still prefer to keep wikicode in a single line since some of your changes, like artist field do not influence the outcome. #2 about removing the italic formatting quotation marks, I added them to delineate info about all the plates and info about specific plate. I think it is easier to read but I am not very attached to it. #4 I see a lot of changes like that in templates and I am often confused about them, since I can not tell the difference between the 2 types of dash - may be different font. It is fine with me to change it. About #5 I think we should remove author info from description field - it is redundant with the author field. --Jarekt (talk) 12:57, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi @Jarekt: . It's been quite a while now since the last time. I made some changes to the summary box of all plates, implementing also your suggestion of listing the plate number separately from the description. editHey there, I just saw your comment on the silk road map (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/74/Silk_route.jpg) I have no idea if it is original research of not. In my version of the map I had simply used the same caption of the original map image: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Silk_Route_extant.JPG Maybe it's best to get in touch with that author if he is still around. Also, you should shorten the route in China itself to a point above the "a" of China. This way we could continue to use the map. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 15:58, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- Found a number of clearly reliable sources about the sea routes. So this is a bit premature, let's wait until we can agree on this. Dougweller (talk) 15:36, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- These sources called the sea routes explicitly "silk road"? Apart from the question of problematic terminology (how a road can exist on sea?), I am not aware of such usage. However, I don't have an overt interest in this question, I just passingly noticed it, so if it gets complicated or time-consuming, I rather prefer to be out, meaning: do as you think best. :-) Regards Gun Powder Ma (talk) 17:26, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Roman bridges in Turkey
editBoth of these two bridges are located near Limyra respectively Kemer; they are not situated in these towns but several kilometres outside of them. That's the reason why they are called in specialist literature Bridge near Limyra and Bridge near Kemer. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 14:25, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- I recommend you to request naming in English Wikipedia. Takabeg (talk) 14:27, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- You are aware that you have started edit-warring about it? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 18:51, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Please don't continue edit wars. Commons is not a place of discussion on Commons is not battle field. You don't have any intention to apply to en:Wikipedia:Requested moves ? If so I'll never support such original titles. For example, I couldn't find "Bridge near Kemer" in reliable sources but I could find "Kemer Bridge". Takabeg (talk) 21:28, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- As you say, Commons is not place for edit-wars, so I wonder why you have been edit-warring against the editor who happened to wrote the articles on these two bridges, that is me. There is only a single scholarly source, Wurster and Ganzert, about the bridge in the entire Wikipedia, if not entire internet, and it speaks on p. 304 of a Bridge 4 km upstream of Kemer. On p. 305, fig. 19 the bridge is called "Brücke bei Kemer" = Bridge near Kemer. Hope this settles our dispute. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 21:45, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Category:Bridge_at_Nimreh has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Zheng Ho ship
editThe best way is to express your concerns inside a {{Fact disputed}} template... AnonMoos (talk) 12:33, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, good advice! I did not know though what do fill in the category. And the numbers of letters seem to be limited, I could not add more translations to the template Gun Powder Ma (talk) 13:02, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

- I replied there. Please let me tell you I will oppose any deletion of these galleries. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 01:29, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi, what do the mountains of Tyrol have to do with Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Celje? --Eleassar (t/p) 16:22, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. Nothing. I don't know why it appeared there. I put it on the general page. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 16:23, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Then please don't revert me when I remove your comment from this request. Thanks. --Eleassar (t/p) 16:25, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

- No, I was editing the specific request page, which you may verify in the history.[4] The article title is "Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_in_Category:Celje". --Eleassar (t/p) 16:27, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- I posted it on Commons:Deletion requests/2013/01/22 where it appears as 1.107 Category:Mountains of Tyrol. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 16:33, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- You have obviously not posted it right, because the main page doesn't contain your edit in the history,[5] whereas the mentioned request does.[6] I'm now going to undo your edit. It would be welcome if you verified which page were you editing before you saved your edits. --Eleassar (t/p) 16:40, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- So could you do me a favour and post it right then? Thanks Gun Powder Ma (talk) 16:41, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Done. It's available at Commons:Deletion requests/Category:Mountains of Tyrol. Regards, --Eleassar (t/p) 18:52, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Irish Air Corps Anson
editI am 100% certain that the photo I added to the IAC article is of an Avro 652A Anson 19. Many thousands of these were built. The link you provided was to the Avro Type 652, not 652A. Only the very few 652's built had just three windows and none of these survived WW2. RuthAS (talk) 16:33, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Picture of Roman ship mosaic from Ostia
editHi! I uploaded to Commons every pic I took from Ostia Antica. Unfortunately it looks like I didn't shoot the mosaic you are looking for. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 09:05, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi. Did you take also a picture of this mosaic from the Category:Piazzale delle Corporazioni (Ostia Antica)? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 11:41, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi ! Sorry I couldn't - too dead leaves laying on this mosaic when I took other pictures. Ursus (talk) 12:54, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Olaf Rahardt. Marinemaler.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Olaf Rahardt. credits for the picture of Apollodorus of Damascus
editHello, i would like tu use this picture for my PhD : https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/Apollodorus_of_Damascus,_Greek_Architect_and_Engineer._Pic_01.jpg I suppose you took this picture by yourself ; it is possible to have your real name in order to mention it in the credit of this picture ? "Gun Powder Ma" is a bit strange in this kind of work ! --Heaven7 (talk) 07:40, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
- Certainly, you can use it. I hereby relinquish my right to be credited by name for your PhD. This means you can use the image without referring to me at all. Good luck! Gun Powder Ma (talk) 07:48, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
