Same Sex Marriage in Mexico
editI saw your postings over at Equality on Trial, and I'm an experienced Wikipedia editor, but have no Spanish ability at all. Let me know if you want me to chime in on something. The page is getting complex, but I'm not sure there is that much ability to simplify it. Hopefully, we'll be able to take a look at that after Marriage Equality comes to all of Mexico.Naraht (talk) 17:42, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
File:Kent-Crane Shell Midden.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Share your experience and feedback as a Wikimedian in this global survey
editHello! The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey. We want to know how well we are supporting your work on and off wiki, and how we can change or improve things in the future. The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. You have been randomly selected to take this survey as we would like to hear from your Wikimedia community. The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes.
You can find more information about this survey on the project page and see how your feedback helps the Wikimedia Foundation support editors like you. This survey is hosted by a third-party service and governed by this privacy statement (in English). Please visit our frequently asked questions page to find more information about this survey. If you need additional help, or if you wish to opt-out of future communications about this survey, send an email through the EmailUser feature to WMF Surveys to remove you from the list.
Thank you!
Reminder: Share your feedback in this Wikimedia survey
editEvery response for this survey can help the Wikimedia Foundation improve your experience on the Wikimedia projects. So far, we have heard from just 29% of Wikimedia contributors. The survey is available in various languages and will take between 20 and 40 minutes to be completed. Take the survey now.
If you have already taken the survey, we are sorry you've received this reminder. We have design the survey to make it impossible to identify which users have taken the survey, so we have to send reminders to everyone. If you wish to opt-out of the next reminder or any other survey, send an email through EmailUser feature to WMF Surveys. You can also send any questions you have to this user email. Blanking
editHi Fortguy, thanks for your contributions to our project! But please do not blank pages. The reason is: These pages do not show up in any maintenance category (how should they, containing nothing?). If you want an empty category to be deleted add simply {{speedy|empty}} on top of that page. So it's easier for us and in addition it is done faster. Thank you. Texas category
edit- File:Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cooper, Texas (8591707542).jpg comes from Flickr and is called "Oak Lawn Cemetery".
- File:Cooper Cemetery 2 (8590606827).jpg by the same photographer is called "Cooper Cemetery" and looking at maps, it is in the same place.
I have now put them both in "Category:Oak Lawn Cemetery. Do you agree? Kalbbes (talk) 18:46, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
Cotton Belt Museum in Tyler
editSo, is that Cotton Belt Depot Train Museum not in Downtown Tyler, Texas? ----DanTD (talk) 13:35, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- At best, only peripherally. Besides, "Downtown" is a nebulous, undefined term with no official municipal recognition as it is not within any local historic zoning overlay district or National Register district. The categories such "Downtown City, State" should be used sparingly when there is no official designation as they are always very subjective and their contents are usually redundant with "Buildings in City, State". These two buildings are listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places listings in inner Harris County, Texas and have separate articles on wikipedia. Riverside General Hospital, Houston Negro Hospital School of Nursing Building According to Riverside General Hospital, it sounds like they are either attached buildings or at least part of the same complex. On the Commons they are under separate cats and the relationship between them is not shown or apparent in anyway. What do you think about creating a cat that would connect them? Best, Kalbbes (talk) 14:37, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, Kalbbes! I've been auditing the historic sites for Texas counties over the past several months, but I've been holding off on doing Harris County for last since it is such a huge challenge. As such, I'm going to trust that you have spent more time familiarizing yourself with the sites in that county than I have. First, I'll ask if there are any other images of these two sites than these two photographs. In any case, I could certainly support a "Houston Negro Hospital complex" category, but if either historic place has more than one image, I'd give it its own subcategory with its own {{NRHP}} template. That way, each Wikipedia article can have a Commons link to the appropriate subcategory and each subcategory can have appropriate parent category trees not pertaining to the other such as "hospitals" versus "nursing schools". Still, I certainly can see how it would be beneficial to group the two together and would support doing so, not only because of their proximity, but also due to their architectural similarity, shared cultural heritage, and likely intertwined professional relationship. Fortguy (talk) 02:54, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- I haven't found other images of these two buildings. The Wikipedia articles are confusing, have redirects and are not well sourced except from NRHP and Riverside General Hospital website]. But the buildings were apparently "published" by NRHP on the same day with different ID numbers and names: "Houston Negro Hospital" and "Houston Negro Hospital School of Nursing Building". Otherwise, all the info is the same: architectural style, areas of significance, etc. except they do have different "Significant Years" (1926 vs. 1931) and different "Asset ID"s :(62109ae1-59f8-4125-8795-51fc68d76542 vs. 9b3e0f6c-7100-413d-8b27-2c70fe2fd798). Perhaps you know the importance of these differences. I would agree that a "Houston Negro Hospital complex" category would be a way to go as they are on the same campus (not attached as I had originally thought), and I usually like to keep the NRHP name. How important is the name change to Riverside General Hospital? What name would those looking for the images use do you think? Perhaps a redirect? Kalbbes (talk) 17:26, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- I would keep the Riverside name for the Wikipedia article simply because the hospital remains a current, functioning facility under that name and the ideal article should respect that emphasizing present-day statistics and other info about the hospital with its historic heritage reflecting only a part of the facility's notability. Indeed, the NRHP infobox should be nested within w:Template:Infobox hospital in order to give a more complete overview in a better developed article. As far as the Commons category goes, I don't think it really matters as long as there is a redirect. Using Riverside as the category name might make it easier and less confusing to readers when linking from the article, however. Which ever name is used, an explanatory sentence at the top of the category page mentioning that the building is also known by the other name would be helpful. @Fortguy: there is a typo. It should read Jersey Lilly Saloon, like here. Can you rename please? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 05:51, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Lotje: , the category name is not a typo. The Jersey Lily Saloon is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and the spelling conforms to its listing on that heritage registry by the Texas Historical Commission. Thank you, however, for the interest. By the way, the saloon's namesake was Lillie Langtry, not Lilly, but 19th Century American frontiersmen were not especially renowned for their literacy, and that was true even of frontier judges.
