Image deletion warning Image:Tribinska sala 5.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hello, Dungodung!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

edit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

 1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 0000 [UTC].
 2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
 3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Orthodox cemetery at Pancevo

edit

I want to thank you very much for your St. George chapel photoset. Also, I believe that the Orthodox cemetery in Pancevo has several memorials to the victims murdered by the Nazis on April 22, 1941, as well as the gravestones of many of the victims (I saw one of them - the grave of Mr. Radivoje Atanackovic - in one of your photos). If you're ever able to, I ask that you please consider photographing these memorials and gravestones and adding them to the collection on Wikimedia. The story of this horrible crime doesn't seem to be very well known outside Pancevo, and I hope that photographs will help preserve the memories of the victims who died that day. Thank you for your time.

The grave that I saw is in the lower right hand corner of this photograph. I think that some of the other victims who are buried at this cemetery are named Milenko Jeftic, Sava Pantelic, Aleksandar Topalovacki, Vladimir Zestic, Jovan Maksin and Jovan Adamovic. Thank you again.

OTRS permission and Deletion Requests

edit

Thank you for adding the OTRS permission to File:19981107 TRANSSERBIA 02 Transient party - Cosmosis - DOB, Belgrade, Serbia.webm and the other videos. But please do not remove the Delete template while doing so. It makes it harder for the closing admin (our script pops up a dialog every time you keep a file without a Delete template) and technically the deletion request is still running. It would be much more helpful to add a note to the deletion request. Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 15:31, 1 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Can you explain how this file is PD-Serbia? It's from 2014-11-10 so doesn't match any of these:

a) a work of known authorship and the author died before January 1, 1954
b) an anonymous work and it was published before January 1, 1954
c) a photograph or a work of applied art published before January 1, 1973

Thank you, Multichill (talk) 22:34, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, this image was released under PD as a part of Wikimedia Serbia's WiR program, which can be confirmed by ticket #2022111810006729. Filip (§) 20:49, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Release under PD? That's a license, PD-Serbia is not a license. User:Krd tagged it as missing permission. You added the template. You have to explain how it's possible that PD-Serbia applies, but that seems quite impossible. Multichill (talk) 21:08, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Why wouldn't an institution release content to PD, instead to a CC-style license? They usually do choose CC, but sometimes they choose PD. Maybe @Gorana Gomirac (VMRS) could provide the context. Filip (§) 19:05, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm ready the English version of PD-Serbia, what are you reading? You added it, you approved the release so I'm asking you how you think it's valid. Currently it looks like it was not properly released so that would put all files in Category:Content donations by Faculty of Dramatic Arts 2022 at risk. Multichill (talk) 19:34, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, I guess this could have been a mixup, or wrong expectations from PD-Serbia. I suppose the proper template should be simply PD-author. Filip (§) 19:01, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Multichill and thank you for raising this up.
We checked everything and there was a mixup with the permission on Wikimedia Commons. We have written and signed CC-style permission from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (the institution that released this file through the Wikipedian in residence project) and we will mark it as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding!
Best, Gorana Gomirac (VMRS) (talk) 14:12, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, apologies for the mixup, the GLAM institution released some photos under CC, and some photos were PD-old, so in the plethora of permission emails, I made a permutation and thought these were PD claims instead of CC releases. Gorana fixed the license templates, and I now fixed the permission templates, so things should be fixed now. Again, sorry for the confusion. Filip (§) 16:07, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's quite a serious mistake when it comes to copyright and permissions. Might be better if another VTRS user double checks it if it's all correct now. Multichill (talk) 20:21, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
We don't have another. Filip (§) 16:33, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
The ticket releases a list of 51 images under CC BY-SA-4.0. It uses the standard Declaration of Consent for this release.
Hope this helps! Ciell (talk) 18:41, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
