- This image is now under discussion, as there is (no more?) proof that it is PD. It is obvious that the image was somehow free before, as we can see in the internet archive links. But the biggest issue is that there are some limitations as well, as it is mentioned that the image can not freely be used in newsarticles etc. To keep this image on Wikipedia, it would need to get one of the supported licenses. The easiest way to manage this, is to get a mail sent to OTRS, like it is mentioned on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/WP:OTRS. Edoderoo (talk) 20:49, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Revision deletion on my talk page
Hello. I'm a little bit curious about what you deleted [1] (in between) from my talk page. If it concerned myself i have some interest to know what it was about. --/人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ どこに見てもオッパイばかり 12:50, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Deletion reasons
Would you mind providing deletion reasons and links to the DRs at your deletions? exmpl.. Thanks. I do not need to mention that your deletion reasons with "clearly not an adult" and so on are laughable. But you may know that yourself. Have fun censoring Commons. --Saibo (Δ) 00:40, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- It's clearly pointed out in the deletion discussion. The automated tool, which I don't particularly like, left out the deletion rationale. I'll likely just do them manually in future, while I'm "censoring" pics of naked children on Commons, kids who were legally unable to provide permission. The word 'censorship' has been abused and bandied around Commons now to the point that it's now meaningless. But you may know that yourself. Have fun trashing Commons - Alison ❤ 00:53, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- Fix it. You are responsible for your edits. --Saibo (Δ) 01:50, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- That said, I am happy to have such medical experts here at Commons who can judge from a blurry mobile phone photo that a person is not at least 18. God bless you! And save the children! --Saibo (Δ) 01:55, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Nearly (I did not check all)) All the recently deleted files (by you) are trash (quality POV) you are right - but why can't you leave the DRs open at least(!) 7 days and provide such laughable reasons and do not let the community judge? --Saibo (Δ) 02:13, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'm glad you appreciate my 'medical expertise' - it spurs me on to do better and further work here :) However, I'd like to point out that I'm not averse to appropriate pictures of children's genitalia where these are clearly educational, illustrative and provided in context. Here's an example of an image from the English Wikipedia, from a medical publication, and here are my comments voicing my appreciation to the uploader. Note that both myself and the uploader found the image appropriate, tho' upsetting (it relates to a poor surgical outcome). It's all about context. If I see pictures of naked children on here that have been uploaded by a child, for example, I'll speedy-delete them where and when I can. Children cannot give consent, per law, and cannot release rights to such images. That's apart from the fact that this place is jam-loaded with inappropriate, out-of-scope, poor quality images of all sorts. We don't need them, and they detract from the quality of the extant image bank, and the project as a whole. As admins here, we are trusted to exercise good judgment, often autonomously - it's what we're paid for, so to speak. And I'm an admin here of some years, voted in by the community and for the community. Not only have I Commons' interests at heart, but also of the subjects depicted and of the appropriate laws. It's a balance, and we have to use our discretion. Also, I appreciate your blessings here, but I'm not religious in the slightest! Thanks, though ;) - Alison ❤ 04:35, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Mein_penis_und_ringelsocken.jpg at least you provided a reason for deletion (which Denniss did not). But is there a chance that you respect the usual deletion request duration in future? Thank you. --Saibo (Δ∇) 12:52, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- Like I said, I'll act as I see prudent in serving the best interests of the project. Thanks for your concern - Alison ❤ 09:30, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Blocks
Please note [2] - I think there should be given a notification. At least if it is a indef block! Also note that I have reverted your block extension - please do not act in a rage and scare away people willig to contribute. --Saibo (Δ∇) 13:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- I never block an account based on an emotional response, least of all in a 'rage', as you put it. The block and legal implications of the uploads were already discussed on Jimbo's talk page (y'know - that guy you hold in so much contempt) and I did what was most prudent. There was no 'rage; involved. In future, I'd appreciate it if you would ask before undoing any of my admin actions; they are all done with due consideration and with good reason. If someone is here soley to upload their own underage genitalia for erotic purposes, I'll be only too glad to "scare them away" and will likely do so as I see fit. Thanks for the advice, though ;) - Alison ❤ 09:29, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Jimbo's talk page ... is that mention intended as joke? If your action would not be so obviously unjustified and personal opinion-driven I would not have reverted it, of course. Cheers --Saibo (Δ∇) 15:18, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- No, it's not meant as a joke. In fact I pointed it out to both you and Denniss at the time as it contained comments pertinent to Commons. Here's the link again. You can see it was User:Wnt, in fact, who brought up issues related to the uploader in question. Commons, believe it or not, does not exist in isolation and certainly does answer to the other projects. As to your wheel-warring, you should be aware that User:Mattbuck spoke out strongly against the practice here on Commons only last week. Undoing another admin's action - especially undoing a block - should never be done, IMO, without first consulting that admin. Furthermore, you repeatedly restored one image that another admin (Denniss) had rightly deleted, and declared the deletion to be "laughable", yet the image had clear legal implications in many jurisdictions. This was all covered on Jimbo's talk page, which was why I drew your attention to it. You chose, however, to brush this off. Your prerogative, of course. As to my indef block of that user, please do not second-guess either my motive or my emotional state at the time. All blocks I've made, on all projects I'm admin on, are done dispassionately and with due consideration, and I've done almost 10,000 blocks now. These are always carried out in the best interests of the project and with due consideration of policy. It really is that simple. So in future, please do not undo any of my admin actions without first asking. Thanks :) - Alison ❤ 21:42, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Btw: That comment regarding your block might be interesting to you. --Saibo (Δ∇) 12:35, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Comments on a DR closure by yourself
I have been asked by an editor to look at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mein penis und ringelsocken.jpg which was closed by yourself, and after reviewing the available on-Commons information, there are some concerns with this closure by yourself.
Firstly, and less importantly, in the close you have closed it "Per Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mein penis und ringelsocken.jpg" which is the actual request in question. Is this an error on your part? Did you mean to refer to another request?
Most importantly, this image was the subject of discussion on JW's English Wikipedia talk page; the Commons community was not involved in discussion at all. Discussion which occurs offsite and on another WMF project, without the wider eyes of the Commons community, is somewhat problematic. This is because we obviously have policies and guidelines which control our content here, and that control is driven by this community.
After looking at the available information, your close of this DR was rushed, and has resulted in deletion for an incorrect reason. The photo File:Mein penis und ringelsocken.jpg, uploaded by User:Ralf 20 shows a semi-erect penis, in which it looks like the person is pulling down the foreskin. There is obvious hair on the upper thigh region, but is appears from the photo that the pubic area is free of pubic hair; most likely shaved, which is quite popular these days amongst many younger guys. File:Mein Penis von hinten.jpeg is another photo of Ralf 20 showing a person wearing the same socks, but taken from behind showing the anus region with the now-erect penis being held down between the legs. The are obvious tufts of hair on the back of the legs up to, and including around, his anus region. File:Mein penis 14 cm.jpg is a similar photo of the same penis to the one at the DR and File:Mein penis.JPG is the same penis yet fully erect.
It is obvious that this is not a 13 year old penis, but is the penis of someone who is likely 20 years old (judging by the editors username), and hence should not have been deleted upon that rationale, much less due to "serious concerns".
Having said that, the photos should have been deleted as per Commons:Nudity#New_uploads, but that is in itself a matter for community discussion, but on this occasion this has not occurred, due to off-Commons comments being used to control our content.
I am not going to undelete the file, and reopen discussion, but it would be great if you would go back to the DR and "reclose" it only based upon Commons content guidelines and policies.
I hope you would agree that this is an example of why it is of utmost importance for the Common community to control its content on-Commons instead of offsite and/or via other projects. russavia (talk) 03:05, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- Just a comment... that the user is "likely" 20 years old because his username is "Ralf 20" is so weak it's not even worth suggesting. From what I recall of the image, the subject could realistically be anywhere from 13 to 30. Even with a clear shot of the subject's face there can be some uncertainty. The age discussion should be less about how old this particular subject is and more about how we can (should?) reasonably verify that nude subjects are in fact of legal age. – JBarta (talk) 08:53, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Alison, I have gone ahead and re-amended the close to be based purely upon Commons:Nudity#New_uploads. Hope you don't mind me doing that; it's better to get it right, rather than suppose that it is child porn, when it likely is anything but. Other than that, no probs. russavia (talk) 12:39, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, let me go on record as saying that I do object to your petty restoration/deletion of that image, not that it matters at this point. I've no interested in counting the hairs on his nadger, thanks all the same, and I'll stick to my policy of deleting any images that I perceive to be potentially illegal and/or uploaded and licensed by those who may not be legally able to release rights - Alison ❤ 05:21, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Shouldn't we block users who attempt to defame other users?
Source [3]
"Fear of being banned, to give an example from just now. People have raised matters on-commons repeatedly only to find themselves blocked - Alison ❤ 23:33, 10 May 2012 (UTC) "
- This shows how wrong you are.
- Don't mix up to bann an to block, please.
- Making untrue claims and being uncivil is indeed a reason to block. After I complained about that, the user in concern didn't apologize but tried to justify what he did. "I called Fæ's comment, not Fæ himself, silly." is just one example of the poor tone of the user who obviously felt attacked by my comment.

Request to UNDELETE the photos of Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr..JPG, Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr2.JPG and Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr3.JPG
My name is Faith M. Fernandez and I am the daughter of Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr. who is a prominent labor leader of Davao City, Philippines. My father died on June 9, 1979.
Sharpie2007 wrote an article in Wikipedia.Org about my father Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr. [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Fernandez_(labor_leader) ] wherein which the family of Mr. Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr. is so grateful about. I have further given complete permission to Sharpie2007 to use the photos of my father under the filenames of Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr..JPG, Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr2.JPG and Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr3.JPG. I was very surprised that suddenly on the 14th of March 2013 a Wikipedia Editor with the username INeverCry deleted the three photos in question. I further advised INeverCry that I have given complete permission to Sharpie2007 to use the said photos.
I have further given the scanned copies of the death certificate of my father (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36095247/Rudolfo A. Fernandez Sr. Death Certificate.jpg ) and my birth certificate proving that I am the daughter of Mr. Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr., (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36095247/Faith Fernandez Birth Certificate.jpg ) to the said Wikipedia Editor INeverCry and he instructed me to write to you, hence this email.
I therefore request your goodselves to UNDELETE the said photos so it can rightfully be returned back to where it has been inputted since January 2010. I am further willing to do anything and everything that you instruct just to be able to make sure that the said photos will be inputted back to the said Wikipedia article of Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr.
I look forward to your immediate acknowledgement of the above. Faithfern09

It is clear from his edit summaries that Odder was involved in a heavy dispute regarding Jimbo Wales and left after making it clear that his actions were unbecoming. As an admin here, I would request that you explain to Odder how his behavior has been completely unacceptable on Commons in attacking and intimidating those who try to stand up for our BLP standards. Fae
For obvious reasons, Fae wont be able to make the same smears of homophobia he uses to distract from his wrong doing, so you are able to talk to him when others can't. [4]. He tried to smear me by claiming that I only uploaded 90 images when it is obvious that I uploaded over a thousand. After this was pointed out, he made the above attack. The discussion guidelines makes it clear that his incivility is really inappropriate, and that he has been acting out of control because the policy would be tightened to ensure that promotional material is deleted as not being educational. It is obvious that a handful of people are trying to use Commons to get attention, money, or some other benefit that is outside the purview of this community. It is obvious that they will make whatever nasty comments and threats to ensure that they can continue. Ottava Rima (talk) 16:48, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 05:32, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Your technical help is needed
Hello, I'm addressing you as an Admin (indirectly picked this page searching for a recently-active en-speaker on the admins' list). One of our users has earlier tonight taken a "blessed initiative" and, somehow spotting on me while I was uploading my files and categorizing them, performed file-renaming to no less than 15 16 of my just-uploaded files as well as older ones, all invalid acts! I contacted them when I noticed the first four moves, assuming that they hadn't fully been aware that they were abusing their mover-rights, and let them know that I would pursue undoing those renames back to the legitimate names. Unbelievably, right after giving me a not-so-mannered response - they continued renaming many other files from my plethora of contributed images, and I have no explanation to that other than either craziness or an odd will to damage my work. I've been volunteering here on Commons from 2009 and haven't experienced such a terrible thing. Needless to mention that these 15 16 (and probably still counting) renames, being all against any policy or rule we have here, are an absolute joke and are all reversible to the last one, but obviously I can't do this myself as the rename process automatically converted the original names to redirects.. Very kindly fix it, given you have the technical tool to overcome it. Thanks.

Hi
Hi, how are you? I still remember your nice action to me from almost a year ago. Anyway, I came here to request that my user and talk page of Trongphu is deleted from en wikipedia please. I believe it's possible to do that, right? I've known many instances of people asking for that request. Regard! Thanks!Trongphu (talk) 19:13, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
File:Newmacbook.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Deletion of useless file revisions
Hello! While uploading a few files, I've uploaded images with some errors, which I've corrected immediately and re-uploaded their fixed versions. That had left a few useless file revisions around that just keep clogging up the histories, so I'm wondering whether it would be possible to delete those revisions? Could you, please, provide some guidance about that? Any help would be appreciated! Oh, and by the way, I've picked you randomly from the list of administrators. :) — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 20:41, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- Please disregard this, it has been already handled. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 20:43, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your time. I'd like to ask you about this kind of "screen capture". Is it valid to take a picture of a screen tv? This user has several pictures of the same type. Please, check them when you have time. Thank you again. --Fixertool (talk) 22:22, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's not okay either. A screencap of a copyrighted TV program is still under copyright. Also, it's been deleted before - Alison ❤ 20:26, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Removal of uploader credit
Hello, you are being contacted as a user who has previously [or currently] included "* Uploaded by Example" in your file uploads. A bot task has been approved to remove this specific phrase from files because it can be misleading when attempting to attribute the file creator. As an alternative, RileyBot is willing to tag your uploads with a user category instead. Please respond stating if you opt-in and if you have any specific requests (addition of user category, etc); if there is no response within two weeks, consent will be implied. Please note, this message has been left by an automated bot, however, a user will be tracking your response. RileyBot (talk) 01:14, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Please, check
All are copyvio. Thanks in advance. --Fixertool (talk) 19:19, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

De-adminship
Hi Alison — in line with the above, I'd like to let you know that the admin inactivity run for August-September 2017 has now finished. As you had failed to indicate willingness to retain your admin privileges or to perform the required number of admin actions, I submitted a request on Meta-Wiki to have your adminship revoked as required by our inactivity policy. A Wikimedia steward has already attended to this request, and you have since been added to the autopatrolled user group as you are a trusted and experienced member of the Commons community.
I'd like to use this opportunity to thank you for the many years of your service to Commons; while it is disappointing that you're no longer as active as you used to be, I hope you will come back to us one day and will continue contributing to the project. Of course, please do feel free to re-apply for adminship when this happens :-) Thanks again! odder (talk) 22:09, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:MarkLovell cropped.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:MarkLovell cropped.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
