English: Site of Haldon Aerodrome. This piece of heath above Teignmouth is an historic aerodrome. It started in 1928, was the first flying school in the West Country. A website about Plymouth City Airport http://www.plymouthcity.flyer.co.uk/airporthistory1.htm tells us "In 1933 Imperial Airways began flights to Cardiff, Torquay(Haldon) and Birmingham from 1933 forming Railway Air Services, adding Teignmouth and Liverpool to its routes and using Imperial Airways' Wessex airliners". |
