The Rangoon war crimes trials opened on 22 March 1946, in the Civic Hall, which had been converted into a courtroom. The President of the Court was Lieutenant Colonel R C Laming. Prosecuting officers were Captain A J T Collier and Lieutenant D D Airey, whilst the defending officers were Captain D G P McGregor and Lieutenant A M Sturrock.
