English: Qasr al-Hayr al-Sharqi ("Eastern Castle") is a castle (qasr) in the middle of the Syrian Desert, built by the Umayyad caliphs in 730 CE. A blend of Byzantine and Persian architectures, the castle is some of the most impressive examples of early Islamic art and Islamic architecture. Qasr al-Hayr al-Sharqi, Syria.
