Français : Église du Saint-Esprit, Paris, France : Compte tenu de l’ampleur du volume central, l’érection d’une chaire selon les dispositions traditionnelles ne pouvait s’adapter ici. Paul Tournon, architecte de l’église et concepteur du mobilier, prévoit donc de consacrer l’ambon à gauche du chœur (lieu de lecture de l’Evangile) à la fonction de chaire. Dès 1937, peu après l’ouverture de l’église, il en conçoit l’aspect général : une cuve en pierre grise, soutenue par des colonnes en marbre de couleurs, sous un abat-voix en coquille dont l’acoustique est minutieusement étudiée. Tout le décor sculpté se concentre dans cet abat-voix dont le modèle, commandé en 1942 à Roger Prat, a été taillé par René Rispal dans du bois de tilleul. Les symboles des Évangélistes composent un bas relief central, encadré sur les côtés de quatre statuettes de Prophètes et, en partie basse, d’une frise de figurines aux traits des apôtres. D’une grande originalité de conception, cette chaire constitue une belle adaptation au contexte architectural et aux contraintes d’utilisation.
En écho aux coupoles, la forme concave de l’abat-voix, soulignée par l’éclat de sa dorure, participe de l’effet ascensionnel voulu par Paul Tournon (source : Direction des Affaires Culturelles de la Ville de Paris).
