Summary

edit
Description
English: Leontice leontopetalum (labelled as L. leontopetalum ssp. leontopetalum) : container plant in Spring display of bulbous and tuberous-rooted perennials in the futuristic new Alpine House in Kew Gardens. Leontice is a genus of tuberous-rooted, herbaceous perennials belonging to the Barberry family Berberidaceae and closely related to the genus Gymnospermium. Both genera have the somewhat comical English common name of Lion’s Turnip. Leontice spp. contain potent quinolizidine alkaloids akin to those found in certain members of the Legume family Fabaceae (formerly known as Leguminosae) and have been used in folk medicine to treat epilepsy.
