The lamb is a quasi-canting reference to Genesis, 22:7-8, The Sacrifice of Isaac, who briefly took the place of a sacrificial lamb. Vivian continues the blazon quoted above with: each gorged with a rope pendant azure. Such a rope tied around the neck is not discernible on the monument he quotes, which is sculpted in relief, not merely painted. Nor is a rope apparent on the Risdon monument, similarly sculpted in relief.
