Summary
editDescriptionGreat Dunmow Airfield - geograph.org.uk - 221175.jpg |
English: Great Dunmow Airfield. This is the remains of one of the runways on the former Great Dunmow Airfield. It began operation with the 386th Bomb Group of the USAAF in September 1943 with their B26 Marauders later converting to A26 Invaders (confusingly on retirement of the B26 the A26 was redesignated B26). The USAAF moved out in October 1944 and the RAF moved in with Sterlings on Special Duties. At the end of the war the base was used for training. To go to the next field in an alphabetical tour of Essex WW2 airfields click on 221943. Much information was gleaned from Graham Smiths book Essex Airfields In The Second World War.
