Summary
editDescriptionFarmers & Merchants Bank, Cashmere, WA.jpg |
English: This building on Aplets Way was built in 1909-10 for the Farmers & Merchants Bank, Cashmere's first. Founded in 1904 by J.M. Tompkins of Wenatchee, in 1906 they moved into their first permanent home at 107 Cottage Avenue. They purchased this property, then the site of the G.A.R. Hall, in the summer of 1909 and the building was completed the following Spring. At the onset of the Great Depression, the Farmers and Merchants Bank would be absorbed by the rival Cashmere State Bank in 1931 in hopes of creating a stronger institution but it would fail early in early 1932, leaving the town with no bank. The Cashmere Valley Bank would be established by the end of the same year, first occupying the former F&M bank space but eventually expanding into the two neighboring buildings, including the former State Bank. |
