Description
English: McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Members of the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and local Soil and Water Conservation Districts gathered at Miller Woods to learn how to inventory a forest stand, June 24, 2015. NRCS Oregon State Forester Misty Seaboldt led the training, which focused on three techniques commonly used by foresters to gather data for pre-commercial thinning treatments. Participants practiced sampling a forest stand and calculated the average tree diameter, tree spacing, trees per acre, and desired spacing. It’s important for NRCS and SWCD staff to know this information when working with private landowners to develop and implement conservation plans.
