Español: En 1559, el rey Felipe II ordenó al marqués del Carpio la construcción del Castillo para defender la costa de los ataques berberiscos y de la sublevación morisca. Es una sólida construcción cuadrangular de mampostería, capaz de resistir artillería de grueso calibre. Tenía tres torres cilíndricas, de las cuales solo se conservan dos en pie y una gran torre cuadrada de tres plantas en el ángulo sur. Restaurado en 2013, es propiedad del Ayuntamiento de Carboneras y se utiliza para actividades culturales. También es escenario de la celebración de Moros y Cristianos durante las Fiestas en honor a San Antonio de Padua, patrón del municipio (13 de junio). Fue declarado Bien de Interés Cultural el 22 de junio de 1993. |
