Description
English: Carlos Chagas (b July 9, 1879 d Nov 8, 1934) From 1906 to 1909, Dr. Chagas discovered and described completely a new infectious disease: its pathogen (Trypanosoma cruzi), vector (Triatominae), host, clinical manifestations and epidemiology (Chagas disease). Dr. Chagas was also the first to discover and illustrate the parasitic fungal genus Pneumocystis. Here he is pictured with a Grosses Forschungsmikroskop I B built by Carl Zeiss, Jena. Images donated as part of a GLAM collaboration with Carl Zeiss Microscopy - please contact Andy Mabbett for details.
