Ihr gehören weltweit über 1.000 Arten an, in der Paläarktis kommen davon mindestens 100 teilweise sehr große Arten vor.
English: Description: This image shows a Carpenter ant (Camponotus ligniperda).Carpenter ants are large ants (¼ in–1 in) indigenous to large parts of the world. They prefer dead, damp wood in which to build nests. Sometimes carpenter ants will hollow out sections of trees.
