English: The church of Santo Stefano is the first parish church in Serravalle, the capital of the town and it can be traced back to the second half of the 13th century.
The façade is still in its original Romanesque form, but the bell tower was obtained from a previous defensive tower of the castle, of which it has preserved the ancient passage. On the Panciatichi were barricaded, during their struggles with the Chancellors in the sixteenth century. Chancellors fired a fire that damaged both the structure and the adjacent church. The inhabitants of Serravalle are particularly devoted to San Lodovico, which is said to have miraculously appeared in 1306 to avert an assault by the Lucchesi.
