The chess board is artistic piece of creative work made from locally available materials that are normally regarded useless in the comunity (banana fibres and wood).

Description
English: This banana fibre chess board and many other boards are locally made by a Ugandan woman from Luzira.

The chess board was exhibited at the 6th National cultural festival at the Uganda National Cultural Centre grounds grounds (National theartre) and thats where the picture was taken. The lady crafts these boards and many other beatifull things from locally available cheap products like banana fibres that are sometimes just thrown away in the garden and regarded of no big use.

She also uses small pieces of wood to craft the chess pieces and tie banana fibres around them.
