Description

The second of two Merseyrail interchange stations on single track lines divided up by buffer-stops. Seen here is 150.215 on 2J76, 15:28 Kirkby to Manchester Victoria on 21 November 2011. In the far distance is the platform for Merseyrail electric services through to Liverpool.

A fairly miserable day, this was the third of three line re-visits having made just one visit to Kirkby back in 1984. I could so easily have turned back towards Liverpool about 45 minutes earlier instead of the run to Wigan. A delay on a five minute connection coming from the Liverpool direction (due to a passenger being taken ill on the proceeding train at Fazakerley) meant the 14:28 train was not held. As such, I had 50 minutes to wait in this rather grim Merseyside suburb for the next train to meet my "objective" for the day!
