Superb garden trapping from last week Another great catch after a really cold night on Tuesday night when I thought it would be suicide putting the trap out..just 8 degrees was the night-time maximum which is absurd for the 05th of July. Nevertheless the night after looked much better and with a minimum of 15 degrees..almost double of the previous nights temperature. An exceptionally pleasing total of 74 species of moth observed. Some really good moths were found including a garden first Wood Carpet. Wood Carpet use to be quite a scarce moth, but in this last week I have recorded it in 3 different locations, is it just having a really good year? I think so indeed...a very pleasing record for my garden. Other moths of note included a year first Red-necked Footman and a beautifully marked Mottled Rustic with really dark margins to its wings. Peach Blossom was also nice to see having not seen it in the garden since 2013.
