I don't believe the first reaction is possible as drawn. According to SciFinder, there are no examples in the chemical literature of reaction of a phenol with vinyl bromide to give a phenyl vinyl ether of any kind. The second step is dubious as well. Marbletan (talk) 13:40, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. The apparent intent is to synthesize en:saffrole, which is not what the product structure is. Instead of vinyl bromide, the reaction sequence would need to use allyl bromide to give the allyl phenyl ether, something that would make sense as a Claisen substrate to give this target. And that is the sequence doi:10.1039/JR9270001663 (cited in the enwiki article) discusses (though it uses CH2X2 rather than formaldehyde to form the methylene-acetal).
