Contradictory licencing: original 2003 upload appears to have included the phrase "This image (C) Pcb21, 2000." McGeddon (talk) 09:44, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Keep Licensing a work does not mean that your copyright goes away. Rather, you hold on to your copyright, and license any user to use your copyrighted work. See en:Free content#Copyleft for an explanation on how this works. See en:Copyright symbol and en:Copyright notice for their legal significance after 1989. Uploader doesn't say All rights reserved or any other claim of that sort. Therefore, no contradictions with GFDL (and the CC-BY-SA migration). 朝彦 | asahiko (talk) 10:37, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Keep ?!? Well, I certainly hope the uploader does hold the copyright to the image! Otherwise he could not have licenced it. On the very contrary, any image here of which the uploader does NOT hold the copyright needs to be deleted (unless it is PD or a third person owns the rights and we get a licence from him/her). --Wikipeder (talk) 11:17, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Apologies, I was unaware of any nuance between saying "(C)" and "(C) All Rights Reserved" - consider this request retracted. --McGeddon (talk) 12:34, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Delete google say it is there since 01/02/2002 before the upload on Wikipedia Christian Ferrer (talk) 06:17, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. Very strange to see a wikipedia edit box again! Apparently it is nearly ten years since I last touched Wikipedia Commons, and probably nearly as long for the English Wikipedia. Anyway someone emailed about this. Yes the image is copyright me and yes I licenced it under the GFDL when I uploaded it on the English Wikipedia 13 years ago. Of course it fine by me that it is now on Commons and under Creative Commons. As for those Russian webpages that Google thinks pre-date 2003, I think Google just has its data slightly wrong. I think it very unlikely I uploaded the image anywhere other than Wikipedia - therefore the Russian websites would have taken it from here (or from somewhere which took it from here...) sometime after 2003. The Namib Desert is awesome by the way.... would love to go back! Pcb21 (talk) 01:10, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
- Welcome back! Just wanted to say thanks for your nice contribution. Now, regarding the Google search result, I don't see anything in first link provided by Christian. Also, the website allows users to submit and add photos to pre-existing pages. The version hosted on votpusk.ru is the contrast-edited version by Wikipeder, so most likely it was taken from Commons, not the other way around. Keep 朝彦 | asahiko (talk) 08:28, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- Is there a way to have a version with EXIFs and with a higher resolution? Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:56, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
