The Circus is a program on Showtime. I have visited their YouTube site and went to the Portal for the program. Once there, I found the program the image was taken from. On the upper right on both pages, they're selling copies of the programme(s). While this looks like it's the official YouTube channel for the show, I see nothing on either page saying they've released anything under a CC license. Here's their official website. At the bottom of the home page it says "© 2019 Showtime Networks Inc. and Showtime Digital Inc. All rights reserved." Therefore I have deduced that the programme is under copyright. Nowhere does it say that they've given anything from it a CC license. YouTube allows users to mark videos with various CC licenses, but there's none on this one. I have watched the entire 2 minutes clip and there's absolutely nothing about CC licenses on it either. I have therefore deleted the image and will shortly mark it for deletion using this rationale. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cassianto (talk • contribs) July 12, 2019 (UTC)
Keep. The proponent did not even read the license indicated by the uploader in the YouTube video. What irresponsibility. Anyway, there it is clearly written that the content is under Creative Commons licence: "License: Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)".
As I have said at other moments, The Circus is a program produced by Showtime. Weekly the program features episodes about politics, mostly covering elections and the Trump administration. On their YouTube channel, they publish a summary of these episodes. It's not too hard to know that this YouTube account, as well as the creative commons license, was chosen by the creators of the image: for example, one of the program's producers, Alex Wagner, cites this YouTube account. Therefore, I have no doubt that the image complies with the indicated license ({{YouTube CC-BY}}).
And, more importantly, there are several images like this (see Category:Media from The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth) and other sysops have concluded that it is not copyvio (precedents: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kamala Harris announcing her candidacy for presidency.png and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Michael Cohen in 2019.png). Keep. The license is hidden on the initial, default view when you look at the YouTube page.
However, if you click on "SHOW MORE", you can see that it says: "License Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)"
Obviously the videos that SHOWTIME is charging money to view are under copyright, but these are promotional videos that they have uploaded, for the purpose of drawing more traffic to watch their pay-per-view stuff, I presume. Wbm1058 (talk) 12:55, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Keep Difficult to see how a user could be so wrong, while so utterly convinced they were right. For his egregious abuse of Érico on two projects, I have requested a global block for Cassianto. BarkingAtTheMoon (talk) 15:46, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- Finally. After three removals, ignoring four different users, insulting not one but two Administrators, he eventually accepts he was wrong. No apology, of course. The very antithesis of a Wikipedian. Also even tried to remove my vote, an extremely hypocritical act given his attacks on Érico for supposedly acting improperly by defending his image, which he 100% knew was not a copyright violation, and said so as a Commons Administrator, a position Cassianto thinks is so worthless it is acceptable to assume that just because they don't speak English as a first language, they must be liars or incompetent. Long-tagged as having ambiguous stereochemistry. Poor quality of the "OH" group. It has an opaque background (vs rest of image being transparent)--same problem as Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ethyl cinnamate.svg. The two letters also render inconsistently (and sometimes poorly) at different sizes and mediawiki contexts (sometimes the letters touch/overlap). Category:Butan-1-ol has lots of replacements, including various color-codings, orientations, and levels of detail. DMacks (talk) 05:21, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Ball-and-stick model of a salt with covalently bonded sodium cation (BTW why draw such model for salt instead of a crystal structure etc., since such model is fundamentally incorrect, as it cannot exist in reality?). Wostr (talk) 13:48, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- Keep Original author has uploaded a corrected version with transparent background, ionic structure & improved quality. We should keep the file! Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 16:06, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- The major problem has been solved. The question remains is depicting a salt as an anion cation in 3D model correct? This is a convention used in graphical representation of structures, not in 3D models. Until recently, we had crystal structures of salts, not simple anion cation unrealistic models. I won't oppose keeping this file now, but this is the question we should answer, because we have more and more poor models like this one, which are misleading for readers. Wostr (talk) 16:58, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Wostr: I completely agree with you in this point. Generally, salt compounds are always ionic and have a large (infinite) 3D mesh out of corresponding cations & anions. (@Claudio Pistilli: Please take this into consideration when creating a 3d ball-and-stick model, sometimes it's better to visualize the compound with a crystal structure such as File:NaCl polyhedra.png. Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 17:24, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for you opinions. I agree that the crystal structure is important to show the aggregation state of matter, but when I need to make a single reaction I need the molecule alone, and I miss inorganic files of singles molecules in Commons. Don't you agree?Claudio Pistilli (talk) 10:25, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- No, I don't know why anybody would want to show a reaction using molecules instead of chemical structures (is it an encyclopaedia or a reading book for children?), but that's a problem of your local wiki. The problem here is simple: you've uploaded a lot of files that are not chemically correct — some readers will know it, but most won't, hence you're doing more harm than good. Keep File:100 Chilean Pesos (51636114).jpeg. there's nothing copyrightable there.-- Darwin Ahoy! 02:59, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Keep It is true that coins are not by itself part of the public domain and such the copyright belongs to the Central Bank. But they have the same rules (in fact, there is no particular law regarding to the coins or banknotes design, it's just regular law applied to that). As such, old coins are under public domain according to PD-Chile so old coins like this are under PD. Also, simple designs are also under public domain because they are simple designs: the mockups that don't even use the exact design or typography (it's just numbers with a generic laurel wreath) but also this could apply to this type of simple coins. Even some coins with artistic designs above the threshold of originality are mostly under PD: the effigy of O'Higgins appears at least since 1942.
The only ones I could say that are clearly copyrighted are the reverse of the 500 and 100 pesos, because the artistic design are clearly new and not under PD.--B1mbo (talk) 01:02, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
- btw, some files were even released by the alleged copyright holder with a CC-by-sa license, so they shouldn't be on the list even. --B1mbo (talk) 01:07, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
Deleted: per nomination, kept old coins and 1 peso (its image was released into PD by the Central Bank), the arguments about low originalilty don't hold for coin design. --Materialscientist (talk) 13:40, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

3D model with incorrect geometry different sizes of atoms. Wostr (talk) 23:19, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- Comment This, as with many of this uploader's 3D images, are composites (possibly from uncited third parties) and hand-creations or tweaks using graphical editors rather than using a molecular modeling package to generate a reasonable result of the molecule itself. The result is therefore a mixture of styles, sizes, and other graphical choices. In this case, it was clearly composed of one eugenyl group from one source and a carboxyl from another source, then cloning and mirroring to get the other half of the molecule. The result is total geometric nonsense regardless of the additional poor matching of atom sizes and/or chemical reasonableness of the conformation. The more pretty one makes something that is false, the more dangerous it is because someone might believe it. COM:EDUSE makes a strong statement that it's not for commons to judge the truthfulness of images, but instead it's up to other wikis' editors and site policies about using it, and we keep it if they use it. However, there's established precedent from commons-chemistry and other working groups that really bad nonsense (not just hoaxes and vandalism) is sometimes deletable even if in-use. And editors who continually upload nonsense on commons or conceal underlying sources, after repeated warnings, often get blocked here without second thought. DMacks (talk) 03:41, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the opinion of all. All are right and defend what they think right. But I, as creator of the files, must say that chemically they are correct (some of you said they are false just to delete them, this is not cooperation, this is lack of respect to other works), and I am poor and don't have a graphical software to help me with the structures. So I use a graphical editor to build the structures. As I said, I don't want to be the only owner to create structures in Wikipedia and I'm not hurt if someone substitutes the files I have created with much love. But what I can't agree is the simple deletion because the color does not satisfy the ego of a certain individual. The chemical structures serves as visual effect for the articles created and they enrich our encylopedia. Instead of taking hasty decisions, let us make a cold evalutaion of what is best for all of us in our hearts and not take hasty actions. Let's unite our hearts to make Wikipedia a great encyclopedia.Claudio Pistilli (talk) 12:29, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

- I am currently working on an article about Kevin Roster in my wikipedia sandbox. This is the picture I plan on using for that article. I reached out to him and told him I was working on an article and asked him if he had a picture that was either in the public domain or for which he owned the copyright, and he sent me several, including this one. Some of the others appeared in various news articles and so I wasn't actually sure who technically owned those. It isn't clear to me how I'm violating either policy, so I'm not sure what else to say in opposition to the deletion request. PStrait (talk) 18:51, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

- The only files I can see (as not being administrator) is a series about these cable cars, which is not likely to have been published commercially. They are of different size, but that could be due to cropping. Can the files be found on the net? Some people routinely strip EXIF information, so that alone does not seem a reason to delete. If the user's images are going to be routinely deleted because of user history, that should be based on policy. --LPfi (talk) 07:15, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

I believe that the marking as "non-free" on zhwiki may be a mistake. Brazil has a higher TOO than the US. I would doubt this would meet TOO in the US so it should also be ok in Brazil. For due diligence purposes though, I'm putting it to DR for other opinions. Majora (talk) 19:10, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Dubious claim of own work. Also, it is a stamp, which is classified as a work of art under French laws (as seen from COM:FRANCE#Stamps) and uploader claims the date to be in 2002. 大诺史 (Talk/留言/토론/Discussion) 08:34, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

This file was initially tagged by Haukurth as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: The information given here about this photograph showing pages from a 1992 book is totally insufficient to establish that this is a free image. Who actually drew these zodiac images? They look as though they might be old but we can't just assume that without some actual information. Natuur12 (talk) 15:10, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for nominating. Maybe someone can figure out the ultimate source here. If not, I think we'll have to delete. Haukurth (talk) 15:21, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- I agree that we need more info. The uploader is an experienced and recently active editor. Perhaps he/she can provide some background information. Natuur12 (talk) 15:24, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- Indeed. I was a bit trigger-happy with the speedy tag there. Let's see if we can sort this out. Haukurth (talk) 15:51, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
- I own a copy of this book (Chinese-language edition), it says in the "List of Illustrations" section that these images are extracted from a late 15th-century book of hours once belonged to Antoine de Navarre; thus, I believe they are in the public domain. - EugeneZelenko, I'm going to help the uploader correct the problems if these files (to the extent that they can be corrected). I have a question - since I'm not very familiar with the procedures and approaches regarding historic photographs, I'm wondering if there are some general guidelines regarding these types of files? Is there a certain date that is considered to be PD-safe for photographs whose author is unknown? Best regards, Yuriy Bulka (talk) 16:44, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
