    NR Electric Participates in the International Council on Large Electric Systems(CIGRE)2024 The 50th CIGRE session was held in Paris, France from August 24th to 30th, 2024.NR Electric sent a delegation of 15 experts in various fields to participate in the conference. Members of the delegation of NR Electric participated in the academic activities of many technical committees, such as B5 (Protection and automation), B4 (DC system and power electronics), A3 (Transmission and distribution equipment) and B3 (Substation and electrical installations), etc., and carried out technical exchanges with global electric power experts by setting up exhibition booths and organizing technical seminar during the session. Over the years, NR Electric has made outstanding contributions to the B5 and B4 technical committees. In this session, a number of experts from NR, as the convenor of the working group, liaison and members of the theme working group and other important roles, participated in the theme working group meetings and closed-door meetings and other internal meetings organized by the B5 and B4 technical committees. With years of deep accumulation and rich experience in the field of protection automation and power electronics technology, NR experts actively participated in the core work of the new working group and the election of the preferred theme, and share a number of successful cases of NR Electric in the protection automation, intelligent operation and maintenance, high-voltage DC and grid-forming energy storage projects. NR experts chaired the B4.101 working group meeting on “Industrial Implementation and Application of Grid Forming Energy Storage Systems (GFM ESS)” as B4.101 convener, and made a report on “Operational Experiences of Existing HVDC and FACTS Schemes” in the B4 SC internal meeting, which fully reflected the world-leading level of NR Electric in grid-forming energy storage, high-power power electronic technology and equipment. In addition, technical experts from NR Electric also organized technical seminars during the exhibition, focusing on protection automation and intelligent operation and maintenance, high-voltage DC transmission and flexible AC transmission, and renewable energy power system based on grid-forming energy storage and other cutting-edge products and solutions. “Grid-forming technology and applications”, NR introduced the technology development and innovative practice in related fields.     NR assisted successfully put into operation 2 sets of STATCOM projects in Mexico Recently, Mexico Pochutla substation ±50Mvar STATCOM and Agua Zarca substation ±30Mvar STATCOM projects completed all the test and successively transferred to commercial operation. This project is the first application of NR's STATCOM solution in Mexico's National Grid Company (CFE). Pochutla and Agua Zarca substations are far from the main grid, and have large voltage fluctuations and poor power quality problems for a long time. In order to realize the precise control of voltage, NR provides a full set of STATCOM solutions for the project, including control and protection system, IGBT valve set, water-cooling system and related primary equipment, and is responsible for the system research, design, installation, system test and commissioning.     NR successfully put into operation of large-capacity STATCOM project in Chile On July 17, 2024, the Chile Coordinador Electrico Nacional(CEN) formally approved the system test report and performance verification report of the 220kV S/E MAIPO substation ±200MVar STATCOM project. This large-capacity STATCOM project supplied by NR formally put into commercial operation. NR supplied a complete set of STATCOM systems including valve, control and protection systems, water-cooling systems , related primary equipment, and also led the system study, seismic simulation, engineering design and system test for this project. All equipment supplied for the project has passed the Chile seismic certification and fully complies with the local NTSyCS seismic code. During the system test, the equipment performed well, and the performance verification test was successful. The stable product performance, flexible control strategy and smooth operation interface have left a deep impression on CEN users. The commissioning of this project will play a key role in the stability of the power grid in the capital Santiago. NR has successfully commissioned large-capacity FACTS projects in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Chile and other Latin America countries.     The largest capacity Grid-Supporting Static Var Generator in China passes the artificial short-circuit test at Huaneng Zhangbei Wind Farm in Liaoning Province On June 5, 2024, the largest capacity (35kV/±50Mvar) GSSVG(Grid-Supporting Static Var Generator) in China successfully passed the artificial short-circuit test at Huaneng Zhangbei Wind Farm in Liaoning. This is another successful application of GSSVG in the field of renewable energy after the successful commissioning of the first set of GSSVG in China at Xinjiang Huadian Mubi Wind Farm in 2023. In order to verify the performance of GSSVG, the short-circuit time of this artificial short-circuit test lasted 360 ms. GSSVG stably outputs 3 times rated current without delay during the short-circuit period, which effectively supports the voltage of regional power grid.During the recovery period of the fault removal, the reactive power of GSSVG responds to the output in an instantaneous manner, which effectively suppresses the recovery over-voltage of the system. During the whole test, other nearby wind farms did not enter low voltage ride through state, which fully demonstrated the excellent characteristics of GSSVG's synchronous reactive power compensation throughout the short-circuit fault and recovery process, and provided a reliable technical guarantee for the construction of renewable energy dominated electrical power system. NR GSSVG solution adopts the mature high-voltage cascade full-bridge converter topology and combines the grid-forming control technology with rich operating experience, featuring fast response speed, good impedance characteristics, and "true synchronous compensation", which can effectively inhibit the system wide-frequency oscillations and improve the voltage stability level of the grid.     The artificial short-circuit test for the world’s first set of Static Self- Synchronous Compensator was a complete success On May 10, 2024, the world's first set of Static Self-Synchronous Compensator (SSC: Static Self- Synchronous Compensator, hereinafter referred to as “SSC”), supplied by NR Electric, successfully completed the artificial short-circuit test at the site of Huaneng Bamian wind farm project in Jilin. SSC is a new type of grid voltage and frequency support equipment based on grid-forming control technology, composed of supercapacitor and high-voltage power electronic converter, which has the advantages of high inertia, high damping, strong support, low loss and easy operation and maintenance. SSC has the characteristics of self-synchronous voltage source, which can build up the potential necessary for the stable operation of the power system in the stages before, during and after the disturbance, and play the role of “pillar” for the stability of the power grid. By providing inertia and voltage support to the system, SSC can improve the system short-circuit capacity and short-circuit ratio, and can effectively solve the renewable energy dominated power system's transient low-voltage and over-voltage, wide-frequency oscillations and other problems. This 35kV/50MVar SSC project is designed to have a usable energy of more than 200MJ and a short-term overload capacity of 3 times the rated current. The SSC shows excellent performance in this test, responding to the phase and amplitude changes at the connected point without delay, instantaneously outputting a large amount of active and reactive power to support the frequency and voltage of the system. It realized three times the current output during the fault period, which meets the expected requirements. This fault test for SSC shows similar reactive power response characteristics, inertia response characteristics and dynamic damping characteristics as synchronous condenser.     NR Electric helps China's first AC to DC conversions project put into operation On April 28, 2024, the Yangzhou-Zhenjiang ±200kV DC Transmission Project (hereinafter referred to as "Yangzhen DC") was officially put into operation. It will take up the responsibility of large-scale renewable energy consumption across the river in the northern Jiangsu Province, effectively reduce the burden of the existing river crossing, and greatly enhance the north-south transmission capacity of electricity. Yangzhen DC, with a line length of about 110km and a rated transmission capacity of 1,200MW, is the first "AC to DC conversions " project in China, which utilizes the existing Wufeng Mountain crossing of the Yangtze River to transform an AC transmission line into a DC transmission line for the first time. The successful implementation of the project has provided a solution for the power transmission engineering field to solve the problems of grid development, such as high demand for electricity, high saturation of the power grid, and limited right-of-ways for new line construction.
