Almaty, Kazakhstan, August 28, 2024 — The Eighth #CARECThinkTankDevelopmentForum successfully concluded today, bringing together a diverse array of experts, policymakers, and academics from across the CAREC region and beyond. The second day of the forum centered on critical issues at the intersection of climate finance, institutional growth, and financial sustainability for think tanks, especially in the context of navigating the complex political and business landscapes of the region. In-Depth Discussions on Climate Finance and Institutional Growth The forum featured several impactful sessions, including a highly anticipated discussion on Fixing Climate Finance, which underscored the urgent need for substantial and sustained investments to support effective climate action. Speakers emphasized the significant gap between global commitments and actual disbursements, highlighting the severe challenges this disparity poses for developing nations, particularly within the CAREC region.

At the recent 8th #CARECThinkTankDevelopmentForum, the #CARECInstitute had the distinct pleasure of engaging in a meaningful dialogue with the delegation from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (#EFSD). Mr. Kabir Jurazoda, Director of the CAREC Institute, expressed profound gratitude to the EFSD for its steadfast support and active participation in the Institute’s flagship events. At the recent #8thCARECThinkTankDevelopmentForum, several dialogues took place between Mr. Kabir Jurazoda, Director of the #CARECInstitute, and delegations from think tanks representing Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. The parties explored ways to enhance the involvement of think tanks from these countries in the CAREC Institute’s knowledge formation and dissemination efforts, with the goal of bolstering regional economic integration. During the discussions, both delegations expressed keen interest in deepening their engagement with the CAREC Institute. They sought opportunities to leverage CAREC’s resources to better support their national policies and contribute to regional economic strategies.

During the #8thCARECThinkTankDevelopmentForum, a pivotal meeting was held between Mr. Kabir Jurazoda, Director of the #CARECInstitute, and Dr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of the Mekong Institute. The discussions centered on deepening cooperation between the two organizations, highlighting shared goals in promoting sub-regional development, cooperation, and integration.  Mr. Jurazoda expressed his enthusiasm about the potential synergies, particularly in areas such as climate resilience, energy transition, trade, and investment. He emphasized the importance of joint initiatives, including exchange programs, collaborative project proposals, and the sharing of best practices, which align perfectly with both institutes’ goals. Dr. Vichitlekarn shared these views, expressing gratitude for the chance to engage at the forum and emphasizing the opportunities for mutual learning and partnership. He noted that despite different regional contexts, there are numerous common priority areas where both institutes can collaborate, especially in supporting their member countries’ long-term strategic goals and advocating for them in global forums. Conclusively, both leaders agreed on the next steps to formalize their collaboration, including drafting a Memorandum of Understanding and formulating a cooperation plan. This agreement marks a significant milestone in the relationship between CAREC and the Mekong Institute, with both sides committed to leveraging their combined expertise to address common challenges and achieve impactful results. The CAREC and Mekong Institutes look forward to continued discussions and joint efforts that will contribute to the sustainable development and integration of their respective regions.
