Great teamwork drives great results. This weekend saw weeks of planning and hard work bear fruits as our football club, Sandgate FC, held its annual summer 6 a side tournament. Over 300 teams, 5000 players/supporters, 18 hours of football, £27K profit raised for the club, and more importantly 1000s of happy, healthy, active kids from the West London local community leaving with smiles on their faces. Such a great event, and a real buzz for me and my family (even my 78yo dad came down to help!) to be part of team to make this happen. We also celebrated Steve and Lorraine Kennedy, and their family, who have dedicated 33 years of volunteering at the club from coaching, to welfare, to committee they’ve done it all. They’ve give kids a home, given them hope, given them choices and options to a better way of life, often making huge personal sacrifices themselves. They are such a huge inspiration. Much like the Ferguson and Wengers, I doubt we’ll ever see many that can match that sort of service and investment. They’ve been a great support to me personally as I started my coaching career 4 years ago with my son’s team. Wish them all the best with the next adventure. As the club moves to the quieter period of the year over the summer months, we can all reflect positively on a hugely well executed event, with such heartwarming feedback from those that attended. During my recent visit to Mexico, I had the honor to participate in a volunteer event at Granja Para Niñas Esperanza, an orphanage for girls in Mexico City. We brought food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and of course toys and gifts. We shared many smiles and laughter playing and dancing with the little girls. It warms my heart to see the commitment to community of our Mexico staff. A special thanks to our Xerox Delivery team for organizing the event. Last week I welcomed an amazing team from Xerox and JLL to the Cotswolds National Landscape. The main task was to enhance a small glade by removing trees and scrub to improve conditions for wild flowers, butterflies and reptiles. It was one of those tasks where there was a visible difference at the end - very satisfying! The cut material was used to create a dead hedge and a very LARGE habitat pile, further benefiting the local wildlife. Xerox Volunteers days- Bike MS Tour de Farms in Illinois riding and fundraising to End MS. I ride to support my Mom and those like her who live with MS everyday. This past weekend with my family and friends we rode 64 miles Saturday and 24 miles on Sunday. I am honored to volunteer on the Bike MS organizing committee all year long to help to plan, promote and captain 2 teams - Xerox International Cycling Team and Elmhurst Bicycle Club Team raising over $14k. I like this ride as it always has a challenge with hills or weather or BOTH. It reminds me of the challenges that people with Multiple Sclerosis face everyday and pushes me through to finish. Thanks to All who rode, volunteered, donated and/or cheered us on along the way. Learning has no age boundaries! At 105 years old, Virginia "Ginger" Hislop graduated from Stanford University's Graduate School of Education. Earning a master's degree after eight decades is an incredible achievement. Her unwavering commitment to learning reminds us all that education is a lifelong journey.
