During my PhD I shaped my core expertise on hybrid semi-parametric modeling. In particular, I developed a hybrid framework for the Process Analytic Technology initiative, a general hybrid semi-parametric process control framework and parameter identification methods for hybrid models with large number of correlated inputs (>1000 inputs). I also developed a hybrid methodology for systems biology problems, which enables inferring the time delay in biochemical reaction networks. However, most…

I also developed a hybrid methodology for systems biology problems, which enables inferring the time delay in biochemical reaction networks. However, most of the problems I solved during my PhD came from biotechnology, more specific biochemical process problems. I gained profound insights into bioprocesses and I became very well versed in bioprocess modeling and control.

During the course of the program, I furthered HybPATs business plan, adopting novel business models. I also integrated the marketing advise to boost our visibility using various channels and I refined my networking and presentation skills during uncountable events at which we had the opportunity to partake.

During my research exchange to the Prausnitz lab, I worked on the synthesis and characterization of ionic liquids for the extraction of heavy metal ions from wastewaters. We used Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) to confirm the synthesis of the ionic liquid, employed analytical methods such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), UV-VIS spectrophotometry or the Viscometer to characterize its properties and used Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) to analyze the…

Activities and Societies: Poetry Slam participant
In only 5 years, I successfully accomplished my graduate studies at the RWTH Aachen University, including all internships and a 6 month lasting research exchange to the UC, Berkeley. My interest was mostly directed on theoretical approaches. My basic research project was on the “Evaluation and development of a recent method for the model reduction of population balance models by means of dynamic simulation studies”. During the advanced internship, I worked on the modeling of the press-out…

My diploma thesis was on the “Modeling of two-phase flow phenomena by evaluating and extending the Lattice Boltzmann model”.

3rd Hybrid Modeling Summer School (5th - 7th July 2017)
The 3rd Hybrid Modeling summer school was held at BOKU, Vienna Austria. Over three days participants of various backgrounds had a chance to learn about hybrid modeling and chat directly with the experts on this topic. The social program provided an opportunity for networking and getting to know some of Vienna's classics.
