👀 Woah! 📽️ This data viz shows concentrations of carbon dioxide as the gas moved through Earth’s atmosphere from January through March 2020, driven by wind patterns and atmospheric circulation. 👩🔬👨🔬 “As policymakers and as scientists, we're trying to account for where carbon comes from and how that impacts the planet,” said climate scientist Lesley Ott at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. “You see here how everything is interconnected by these different weather patterns.” 🇺🇳 The WMO community is working hard with many partners to strengthen early warnings. But, in addition, we need to tackle the root cause and urgently reduce greenhouse gas levels, which remain at record observed levels. 🌐 You can't manage what you don't measure. And data visualizations help people understand how Earth’s systems work and can inform #ClimateAction. Explore more: https://lnkd.in/eipcpShJ

🇺🇳 As António Guterres says, climate change is driving temperatures to record highs across the globe, putting millions of lives and livelihoods at risk. 🌍 But it's not too late to save ourselves and our planet with urgent #ClimateAction 🌐 The WMO community works hard with many partners to strengthen heat-health action plans and early warnings. But we also need to tackle the root cause and urgently reduce greenhouse gas levels, which remain at record observed levels.

This week the world has experienced the three hottest days on record. But let’s face facts: extreme temperatures are no longer a one day, one week or one month phenomenon. Earth is becoming hotter and more dangerous for everyone, everywhere. Billions of people are facing an extreme heat epidemic. Heat is estimated to kill almost half a million people a year. We know what is driving it: fossil fuel-charged, human-induced climate change. Extreme heat is the new abnormal. But the good news is we can save lives and limit its impact. Today we launched a global call to action focused on on: 🔸Caring for the most vulnerable. 🔸Stepping up protections for workers. 🔸Boosting resilience. 🔸Limiting temperature rise and phasing out fossil fuels. https://lnkd.in/d3r_azEX

I wholeheartedly support António Guterres United Nations #CalltoAction on Extreme #Heat, which is posing an increasing threat to our socio-economic and environmental well-being. “Earth is becoming hotter and more dangerous for everyone, everywhere,” said Mr Guterres. Billions of people are facing an extreme heat epidemic -- wilting under increasingly deadly heatwaves." Our Earth is running an unprecedently high fever. We just had had three new global daily temperature records and monthly temperature records for 13 successive months.” This World Meteorological Organization map shows that at least ten countries have reported temperatures of more than 50°C in the past year. The WMO community is working hard with many partners to strengthen heat-health action plans and early warnings to treat the symptoms of this fever. But, in addition, we need to tackle the root cause and urgently reduce greenhouse gas levels, which remain at record observed levels. #BeatTheHeat #ClimateAction https://bit.ly/4ffCeuL

🏅 🥇 🥈 🥉 All eyes will be on Paris for the next few weeks for the Summer #Olympics, a true sporting feast. Weather will be a key factor in athletic performance and course conditions. Accurate and reliable forecasts and warnings of temperature, humidity, visibility and wind extremes are therefore important for event scheduling and for the safety of athletes, support staff and spectators. METEO FRANCE is providing dedicated #meteorological services for the duration of both the Olympics and Paralympics. In addition, the World Meteorological Organization is supporting a major international project to use the Olympics as an opportunity to advance weather forecasting research, especially of localized, high impact hazards in urban areas such as storms and the “urban heat island" effect. #Paris2024 ➡ https://bit.ly/4bVXZwW
