🌡️ It was the hottest June on record for the globe and the 13th month in a row to set a monthly temperature record. 🌍 These latest figures highlight that we will be exceeding the 1.5°C level on a temporary basis with increasing frequency. However, it is important to stress that temporary breaches do not mean the 1.5 °C goal is permanently lost because this refers to long-term warming over at least two decades. ⚠️We need urgent and concerted #ClimateAction to slash greenhouse gas emissions and flatten the curve. What we have seen in the past 12 months is a foretaste of the future. 📹 United Nations News

Info
We advance meteorological science for a better future for all. WMO provides the framework for international cooperation to advance meteorological, climatological, hydrological, and related environmental services to improve the well-being of all. This is why WMO advocates for an Earth system approach to encompass all the weather, climate, and water-related cycles traversing the globe, irrespective of national boundaries.

As climate change and extreme weather intensify, the World Meteorological Organization is enhancing member capacity through disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, and adaptation strategies. Many WMO member states need stronger National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs). WMO provides targeted training and resources to equip NMHSs with essential knowledge and tools. Read my latest article to learn more about how these efforts foster collaboration and ensure a more resilient and sustainable future for all.

🌪️ Sand and dust storms occur when strong winds lift sand and dust from dry soils into the atmosphere, transporting particles over vast distances. They impact climate, weather, and ecosystems and harm human health, agriculture, transportation, and solar energy. At the same time, they also supply nutrients to ocean ecosystems.

Another Red Alert 🚨 🛑 The average global temperature has been 1.5°C above the pre-industrial era for 12 successive months, according to new data issued by Copernicus ECMWF #ClimateChange Service. 🌡 It was the hottest June on record for the globe and the 13th month in a row to set a monthly temperature record. Indeed, the global-average temperature for the past 12 month period (July 2023 – June 2024) is 1.64°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average, according to the ERA5 dataset. These latest figures unfortunately highlight that we will be exceeding the 1.5°C level on a temporary basis with increasing frequency. However, it is important to stress that temporary breaches do not mean that the 1.5 °C goal is permanently lost because this refers to long-term warming over at least two decades. We need urgent and concerted #ClimateAction to slash greenhouse gas emissions and flatten the curve. What we have seen in the past 12 months is just a foretaste of the future. https://bit.ly/3W2Ozd8
