🌊Flash floods are deadly, but notoriously difficult to forecast. This system from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology can give warnings of flash floods at least one hour in advance – enough time to save lives and protect property. 👉https://ow.ly/nn2q50SGbSj

Dedicated to building disaster resilience and tackling climate change through implementation of the Sendai Framework
Info
At the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), we're dedicated to helping countries and communities lower risk and raise resilience in the face of natural and human-induced hazards. Our work is guided by the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, a 15-year agreement adopted by the international community in 2015, which was the first building block of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

🛡️🌟 Teachers, it's time to shift the narrative! Please teach children about disasters – but not that they're 'natural'. Human decisions cause disasters, not nature. Educate our children on the causes, prevention, and response to hazards. We can create a future where leaders have to take responsibility for reducing disaster risks. ➡️ https://ow.ly/yU7h50SFYsK #NoNaturalDisasters #OurResilientFuture #AreYouReady

Around 40% of the land in urban areas is paved. Paving absorbs solar radiation. The heat absorbed in the pavement is released gradually, warming the surrounding environment, exacerbating heat waves. Data shows that frequency of heat waves could be reduced by 41% across U.S. cities if some roads were lighter-colored and reflective. However, location matters: scientists at MIT have developed a model to help city planners find where in the 4 million miles of US roads could have the most cooling effect. 👉 https://ow.ly/EzTn50SGbFI
