Specializing in salad vegetables, Sumalee makes sure her produce meets the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards. 🥗 Since November 2023, Sumalee's profits have soared - earning two to five times her initial investment. This has enabled her to pay off debts and reinvest in greenhouses, to grow better and more sustainably. In just six months, a team of six Brazilian Syngenta researchers achieved what would normally take years, rescuing their nation’s soybean crops from a crippling crisis. Facing losses of up to 45% in some regions – and with Brazil being one of the largest soy-producing countries – our scientists raced against time to uncover the mysterious anomaly behind the widespread decay and measure its devastating impact. Through their research, they discovered the first effective control measures against the decay. This groundbreaking achievement earned them the 2023 Syngenta Science & Technology Prize, a recognition that celebrates innovative breakthroughs by Syngenta’s scientists in solving agriculture’s toughest challenges. Summers in the western corn belt of the U.S. can be a bittersweet experience for farmers. While warmer months bring ideal growing conditions, growers are also on alert for storms that can hit fields and cause corn stalks to break. This is known as 'greensnap' and is the reason why selecting the right hybrid that's more resilient to protect against greensnap is critical. Our corn R&D trialing team has incorporated a game-changing approach to replicate the winds from these storms. Using helicopters to simulate these damaging winds, they can test how well our pre-commercial hybrids withstand greensnap.
