SQD Co-founder and Chief philosopher sharing insights on how we raised funds, and what to look out for in investors.
🐙 How to Get the First #Investment | 3 Main Mistakes #Web3 Startups Make Tips from Dmitry Zhelezov, Co-founder of SQD, Which Has Raised an Astonishing $17.5 Million Across Multiple Funding Rounds👇 1️⃣ Raising too much capital can lead to an overextended cap table, diluting the equity of existing stakeholders. If you feel you’re oversubscribed and want more money, this is probably wrong. Over-raising suggests inefficiency, implying that the startup could deliver more with less. 2️⃣ If you see a possibility to raise an up-round, it is always a good idea to consider it. This proactive stance ensures startups have the necessary resources to navigate market fluctuations and sustain growth. 3️⃣ At the core of successful fundraising is the development of a robust product and finding product-market fit (PMF). The advice is straightforward: "Build a good product and find a PMF. Go after clients and do things that don’t scale." 4️⃣ Activating immediate networks or seeking referrals to potential angel investors can provide the initial capital needed to validate the product and secure early traction. If you can survive without this money, try to bootstrap for as long as you can. 5️⃣ Whenever you have your first clients and a working product, it will be obvious that you can raise. If a startup struggles to secure these early indicators, it may not yet be ready for significant investment.
