🌍 This week, we hosted a fantastic event centred on carbon market integrity and the power of collaboration in Zürich. 🎤 Our panel discussion brought together thought leaders from Gold Standard, BeZero Carbon, and NextGen CDR, bringing their unique perspectives on integrity and risk management. Here are our key takeaways: 1️⃣ Collaboration is crucial to harmonising the various integrity initiatives in carbon markets, helping rebuild trust and drive convergence toward shared definitions of quality. 2️⃣ On-the-ground project complexities need to be fully reflected in the new frameworks. While these frameworks improve robustness, they also increase requirements, making real-world project dynamics critical to success. 3️⃣ As corporate interest shifts towards carbon removals, transparency, integrity, and collaboration across the market are vital for scaling up the CDR market effectively. Guests also engaged in an interactive meet and greet with local project partners, where they could: 🌱See if they could tell the difference between depleted and carbon-rich soil with CarboCert GmbH 🌱Experience feed additives reducing methane in cow farming with mooh cooperative 🌱Learn about Switzerland's largest Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) project with Airfix The day ended with rich discussions over Aperó. Thank you to everyone who joined us! ✨ #CarbonMarkets #Sustainability #NetZero #Transparency #ClimateAction

Following Climate Week New York, we’ve seen a growing realisation that we need a high-integrity, functioning carbon market. 🌎 To rapidly deploy finance to the most critical climate solutions, we need to: 📉 Decarbonise our economies 🌱 Accelerate action on nature ✨ Deploy carbon dioxide removal technology at a massive scale Last week we heard optimism regarding the future of carbon markets, despite the complexities. Carbon markets have demonstrated that they are part of the solution and can help put a price on emissions – but they need to evolve to meet the moment. Here's how: 1️⃣ Restore trust and integrity in the carbon market: Standardise global market structures under the Paris Agreement and introduce a uniform regulatory approach 2️⃣ Incentivise true climate impact: Clarify the use case for corporate investment in carbon credits 3️⃣ Innovate to solve global challenges: Upgrade market infrastructure to unlock some of the most challenging sector transitions (e.g. coal decommissioning, hard-to-abate sectors) in the Global South and beyond Why we need a high integrity, functioning carbon market 👉https://lnkd.in/eigJaNgM

From VCM complexities, the future of the market, and learnings from the development of Article 6, South Pole’s CEO Dr. Daniel Klier discusses all this with Chelsea Harvey from E&E News:   👉 “Everybody realizes in general for climate action we’re just not mobilizing enough capital, so many people look at the carbon market as a market-based mechanism to mobilize finance.”   To mobilize this capital, we need to scale the market and rebuild trust through a globally recognized standard for carbon credit integrity that is aligned with the Paris Agreement. 🌍   👉 “It will be the worst thing if the U.N. has rules that are very different from where we’re going with ICVCM and reporting standards, because then the same confusion occurs that we have at the moment, where different people use different standards. I think everything that we’ve been through in the last few years in the carbon market creates the rubric for where the Article 6.4 market should go”     The future of carbon markets has been high on the agenda at #ClimateWeekNYC but for carbon markets to reach their full potential as a high-integrity climate tool that delivers impact at scale, the market must continue to evolve. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/emkGZCqU #CarbonMarket #VCM #ParisAgreement #Article6

Last week our delegation of Rose Purbrick, Alejandro Salazar, and Antonio Díaz Aranda spent an inspiring few days at the annual One Young World Summit (OYM). OYM convenes the brightest young leaders from 190 countries and 250 organisations, alongside expert change makers like Johan Rockström, Kimberly Teehee, and David Suzuki, working to accelerate social impact. This year’s event took place in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke) on unceded Indigenous land, with sessions based on five key themes: Indigenous Voices, The Climate and Ecological Crises, AI, Health and Gender Inequality, and Peace. Here are our delegates’ favourite quotes and takeaways from the event: 🍂 “This is what Mikmaq Elder Albert Marshall calls ‘having two eyes’: seeing the power of science with one eye, the constraints of Indigenous knowledge with the other eye. Let’s open both eyes.” David Suzuki during OYM Opening Ceremony, highlighting the importance of integrating indigenous voices into guiding how we see the world and where it’s going. 🌐 “Who is building the AI, what data is being used, and for whom and where, stating “there are 2.5bn that are not connected to the internet, and AI currently disregards them all”. Kate Kallot, Founder and CEO of Amini, noted the most important areas to consider in AI ✨ “We need three things: Skén:nen, which is peace. And when you have peace and Ka'nikonhri:io, which is a good mind, then you can have Ka’shasténhsera, which is collective strength”  Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, explaining the three pillars of the great law of peace (Kaianere'kó:wa) It was a meaningful experience for our delegation, having the chance to connect and learn from other young people and leaders! They’ve returned energized and committed to applying these powerful lessons to our work in driving positive change as we continue building towards a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable world. 🌎 “We often say that an event doesn’t change lives, but perhaps we can change some of them.” - David Jones, Co-Founder of OYW. #OYW #SocialImpact #IndigenousVoices #AIForGood #ClimateAction

🌏 Exciting milestone for South and Southeast Asia! The National Workshop on Multi-Level Action for Climate Resilient Cities saw the launch of seven Net-Zero Climate Resilient City Action Plans 2070. We are proud to have contributed to the development and implementation of these plans as part of the #CapaCITIES program, which is helping urban India gain access to green financing. 🌱 Our technical assistance services helped to prepare the bankable infrastructure projects. The aim is to support the implementation of the presented plans with targeted support of the cities for the definition of infrastructure projects such as water treatment and waste management plants or renewable energy solutions to become viable for financing. ⚡ The event was also an excellent platform to discuss climate finance👇 Our sessions included discussions on: → Experiences in accessing climate finance through the CapaCITIES → International expertise in integrating finance with net zero city development with the Swiss Development Corporation → Learnings from development financial institutions (DFIs) With participants from 30 cities, we were happy to be part of this insightful event on the critical pathways to climate finance and achieving net-zero cities in India! Yesterday during #ClimateWeekNYC 🌍, we hosted an engaging, frank, and forward-looking dialogue exploring the future of net zero and the carbon market’s role in achieving this goal, focusing on key trends such as transparency, integrity, and supply and demand signals. 🌱 Moderated by our own CEO Dr. Daniel Klier and co-hosted by ClimateImpact, our panelists Sebastien Cross, Robin Rix, Megan Kemp, and Dr Joseph Curtin provided valuable insights: 👉 Quality and integrity in the market The next phase of the VCM will be defined by an emphasis on high-quality credits, which are key to unlocking untapped opportunities and driving meaningful climate action. Credit raters and carbon insurance are key emerging players that are adding confidence for buyers. 👉 Big trends shaping net zero While better guidance is needed, market updates (like the SBTi Scope 3 discussion paper) are shaping buyer considerations. Companies are also incorporating carbon removals into their strategies already but more action is needed to meet global climate targets. 👉 Navigating the new landscape Governments are increasingly stepping up to support the VCM. For example, the recent announcements from various parts of the US Administration as well as progress towards supportive regulation in the EU and various other jurisdictions will underpin market scale-up. #NewYorkClimateWeek #CarbonMarkets #NetZero
