Early this year in May, during the Social Gastronomy Movement Reunion in Switzerland, David Hertz, co-founder of Gastromotiva met Simone Assis and Ana Paulina da Costa, two remarkable women from East Timor. They shared how Gastromotiva’s work in Brazil had been the guiding light behind their organization, Pro EMA. Inspired by Gastromotiva's model, Pro EMA emerged to support and empower young women in East Timor, providing them with skills, education, and opportunities for self-reliance. For Simone and Ana, Gastromotiva was more than an inspiration; it was the foundation on which they built their mission to transform lives through food and social entrepreneurship. Deeply moved by their story, David felt a calling to visit Pro EMA. By October, he was in East Timor, where he witnessed the profound impact of their work firsthand. Pro EMA’s community kitchens and self-funded social businesses were empowering hundreds of young women and reshaping futures in a country with limited resources. David saw how, under Simone’s leadership, young girls who might have been left behind were instead thriving, learning, and finding new purpose. David’s visit was a defining moment for Pro EMA. “Having David here was a dream come true for our entire team,” Simone shared. “Everyone felt immensely motivated meeting the person who had inspired Pro EMA.” David’s presence energized the community, drawing chefs, partners, and government officials into the movement. Reflecting on his journey, David expressed gratitude for the Social Gastronomy Movement and its ability to connect like-minded changemakers across borders. He returned to Brazil reinvigorated, inspired by the incredible work being done by Pro EMA, and hopeful for a future where food and social entrepreneurship continue to drive positive change around the world. The story of David and Pro EMA is a testament to the power of connection and collaboration to drive change. #SocialGastronomy

I'm very honored to share the incredible work my sister, Sandra Rocha Evanoff, is doing with the #UniversalPlate Campaign. This initiative is so much more than a project; it’s a true act of love. Starting with just 60 meals in 2021, Sandra - a proud Black woman from incredibly humble beginnings - has transformed her journey into something that impacts so many lives. Growing up with limited resources, she knows firsthand the power of community and connection. Now, she’s bringing that same spirit to young people in Kitsap County, helping them connect with their roots through cooking classes and shared meals. She’s offering more than recipes; she’s giving them a sense of belonging, a taste of home, and a bond that transcends borders. With her work, Sandra is taking a piece of Brazil from Latin America to the U.S., sharing a side of our culture that few people know. Beyond the well-loved feijoada, she’s introducing unique Brazilian dishes—flavors that are almost unknown outside of our country—and showing the world just how rich and meaningful our traditions are. For many, Brazil is associated with Carnaval and football, but Sandra’s mission goes deeper. She’s sharing a Brazil of warmth and kindness, where food is a way to care for one another and build connections. The ‘Universal Plate’ is more than a shared meal; it’s a way to spread love and connect cultures. This is the Brazil Sandra is sharing: a country with open hearts, where being together and supporting one another are at the heart of everything. I’m so proud of the love and dedication she’s pouring into this project and the impact she’s making. Love you Sandroca! #brasilcomestoyou #keepsharing

We successfully concluded the #universalplate Campaign organized by Social Gastronomy Movement Gastronomy Movement, culminating in a special night sponsored by Olive Garden. Since 2023, #OliveGarden has been a vital partner of Brasil Comes to You, supporting Georgia’s House an emergency shelter for women and children in Bremerton, WA. They generously donated dinner for approximately 35 people at Benedict’s House, an emergency shelter for men and young adults. the food was able to extend to Georgia’s House as well. The impact on the community, especially on Mother’s Day, was profound as families experienced the joy of receiving a meal. This highlights the transformative power of food as a tool for social change. Our collective efforts during World Food Day Week made a significant difference, with #OliveGarden and other businesses championing small enterprises, elevating Kitsap County on the global stage in the battle against hunger. The Universal Plate Campaign, launched by Social Gastronomy Movement during the pandemic, stands as a beacon of hope. Since our involvement in 2021, we have progressed from cooking 60 meals to preparing 275 meals in 2024, thanks to collaborations with The Salvation Army Bremerton, WA Silverdale Lutheran Church, and Benedict’s House. We don’t have all numbers yet, but we are calculating that between all this organizations our cooking class for the Youth Latinos, our campaign in Kitsap County will end up with almost 1500 meals in seven days. Looking ahead post-pandemic, the campaign is set to expand globally. Gratitude goes to Olive Garden, Fishline Food Bank, #CentralKitsapFoodBank, Silverdale Lutheran Church, our dedicated followers, and all contributors for their unwavering support. Together, we are making a tangible impact, and I take pride in witnessing the remarkable journey that food has led us on. Building GIGA & humannature.ai (coming soon!); Founder Thought For Food®; Author 'The Change-Maker's Guide to Feeding the Planet'; Scaling breakthrough agrifood solutions; Mentor, Speaker, Bio-Creative

We live in incredible times that offer unparalleled opportunities for innovation --- that is: if we decide to embrace them! For example, just this morning, I uploaded my book, "The Change-Maker's Guide to Feeding the Planet," to Google's newly-launched #NotebookLM. Within minutes, #AI transformed it into an engaging, realistic podcast. It took me another couple of minutes to upload it onto SoundCloud (a free audio platform) - and now I can share the book's ideas & tools with all of you in a brand-new format. WILD! 🤯🤯 🎧 (Check out the podcast at the link below; it does a pretty darn good job!!!) Consider this: In 2024, 66% of the world’s population has internet access. We are rapidly approaching full global coverage. Soon, anyone, anywhere, will have the chance to go online to do things like: ➡️ Access world-class educational resources & collaborators ➡️ Leverage (ethically sourced) generative AI for writing, design, and operational efficiency ➡️ Conduct advanced research & development to build real-world solutions outside of traditional corporate or university labs  ➡️ Secure funding to scale solutions via democratized platforms And so much more... What does this mean for the future of food & agriculture? That WE get to define #whatsnext! 💪 And that's precisely what we did during the #nextgen innovation & #changemaking workshop I led this week with 30 university students and policy leaders in Turkey 🇹🇷. The workshop was part of the #Adana Agriculture Summit & Food Festival, brought to life by the Social Gastronomy Movement in celebration of #WorldFoodDay. After setting our imaginations free to define our desired "Point Bs"—e.g., where we want to be headed - we were radically honest about where we are starting and the very-real challenges we need to take head-on. Then, we explored how to tap into the 6 "next-gen" innovation attitudes and approaches I cover in my book to turn these challenges into creative innovation opportunities. 🌱 "It was truly inspiring to explore how we, as GenZs, can address pressing challenges like #waterscarcity#globalwarming, and #labor issues. Christine's vision opened our eyes to the powerful role young people can play in confronting global crises in new ways. It was incredible!" (actual testimonial from a participant representing Slow Food Youth Network Adana, who has also recently returned to her parent's farm after being a lawyer 🧑🏽🌾🤩 - AND she made this reel for Instagram (for more, be sure to follow me on @thechangemakersguide) I’m passionate about getting people, young and old, from within the industry and beyond to understand and get excited about the power we all have to envision new possibilities and bring them to life. 💪 Are you ready to shape the future you want to see? My team and I would LOVE to bring our workshop to your organization or institution. Please reach out, and let’s future-proof your strategies and create the change the world needs now. 🌍 🚀

Our last day at The Salvation Army in Bremerton, WA was rewarding. We expected a hundred people but served about 120, ensuring no delay in providing food. Everything was on a large scale, from the pans and stove to the line of eager individuals awaiting their meals. We also had a fun time, you can imagine cook this amount of food in two hours an half without good humor? Well this another story, we made it we love. I witnessed the impact firsthand as my corn beef casserole fed a hundred people, complemented by tacos, chili, and more to feed everyone in line. It goes beyond just providing food; it's about smiling and offering attention to fight hunger effectively. The feedback was heartwarming as guests asked if I would return or become their new chef due to the delicious food, including the well-received salad dressing. I have to come back to make another dinner beef corner casserole, as they asked me. Through our #universalplate Campaign with Social Gastronomy Movement we aim to deliver food with a meaningful message, emphasizing that food is a human right, not a privilege. This week alone, I cooked 270 meals, in addition to the daily efforts of churches and Salvation Army. Food serves as a powerful tool for social change, resonating deeply as a symbol of love that nourishes our hearts. Let's continue spreading love and meaningful messages through food. Words can not express what we have experienced this week. From the the pressure to cook for hundreds people, to cry when we saw a family with kids in line. We learn everyday how address with love and smile. A big thank for all sponsors Fishline SANDRA ROCHA EVANOFF (BrasilComestoYou) @olivegardenrestsurant and Silverdale Lutheran Church #zerohunger #foodfoeall #FoodIsLove #SocialChange #FightHunger
