We are proud members of team ETH BiodivX and we look forward to launching the backpack lab 🎒🧪 🧬 for DNA based biodiversity monitoring into the world soon! Designed in collaboration with our partners Diaxxo AG miniPCR bio Eppendorf and Patagonia!

Our CEO Tobias unfortunately spends most of his time on the phone or on his laptop, so when he gets a chance to hit the park for work, on a sunny summer day, he takes it. Here he is, amidst the foliage near the office in Munich, testing environmental DNA (eDNA) 👀. The kit came from SimplexDNA 🧬🌍, which has developed a way of assessing biodiversity locally through air, soil and water samples. VIDA already helps infrastructure investors assess a site’s proximity to biodiversity hotspots and protected areas, globally. But some customers may need more detailed local information and that can be provided by an eDNA sample such as this one. 🧑🔬 Did you know that biodiversity is measured at the level of genetics, at the level of ecosystems and at the level of species? L’une des choses dont je suis le plus fier, c’est d’avoir réussi à intégrer de la Science à mon défi éco-sportif 2023 avec l’aide de mes partenaires Summit Foundation et SimplexDNA 🧬🌍. En traversant la Suisse d’est en ouest en passant par les Alpes, sur plus de 750km et 13’000m de D , le véritable challenge a été d’échantillonner les eaux des 10 lacs de montagne que j’ai traversés à la nage. L’objectif ? En séquencer l’ADN pour identifier et mieux comprendre les espèces qui vivent dans ces lacs dans le but de mieux les protéger. Je vous partage en avant-première les backstages du traitement de nos échantillons en laboratoire. À la fin de ce processus de séquençage, nous vous partagerons les résultats qui j’espère encouragerons toutes les parties prenantes à prendre des mesures pour préserver les eaux suisses.
