Switzerland, through SECO, has been actively advancing the urban mobility agenda in Ghana since 2016. As one of its concluding activities, the USD 6 mio. “Ghana Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project” recently convened an urban mobility forum, sharing lessons learnt and discussing solutions. The project is part of SECO’s broader initiative to support sustainable urban development in Africa to ensure that the cities on the continent remain livable in the future. The project has trained urban experts and gathered data on urban mobility and accessibility, including the first ever household travel survey to understand the travel patterns of citizens living in Greater Accra. It will also upgrade 6 critical junctions in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area to improve traffic flows and road safety. SECO supports the implementation of the #GreenAgenda in Serbia by encouraging innovative private sector investments. 🏭For instance, SECO is co-funding the packaging company Papir Print from Gornji Milanovac, the first company in Serbia to be equipped with technology that converts waste gases from production into "green" energy. ♻️This transformation is a very cost-efficient and effective way to significantly reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases, complying with the highest EU standards. This initiative increased the competitiveness of the company's products on the domestic and export markets and contributes to the decarbonization of the Serbian economy. Switzerland, through SECO, hosted the Steering Committee of the Financial Sector Stability Fund. The Fund is crucial to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) capacity development on financial stability in low and middle-income countries. 📢 Thanks to the participation of the Schweizerische Nationalbank (SNB), Eidgenössische Finanzmarktaufsicht FINMA, and Staatssekretariat für internationale Finanzfragen SIF, the event provided an opportunity to discuss the roles of central banks, regulatory authorities, and international organizations in ensuring financial stability amid evolving global challenges. The contribution of the Bank for International Settlements – BIS Innovation Hub discussed how technology can support central banks and improve the functioning of the financial system. All in the interest of providing a solid framework for the financial sector, increasing macroeconomic resilience and helping to mitigate the costs of financial crises to achieve sustainable growth and financial inclusion. 📈 A big thank you to all the participants for their active engagement and contributions. Your presence and inputs were essential to the success of this event! 🤝 👉Link to the FSSF page: https://lnkd.in/eEK9fFbQ 👉Link to the SECO factsheet: https://lnkd.in/ekC-StqK

Improving tax revenue in developing countries SECO committed CHF 28.5 million through 2028 to help developing countries reform their tax systems. Low tax revenue hinders these countries' ability to invest in social and economic development, provide important public services, and meet the public’s basic needs. Moreover, effective tax systems encourage civic engagement and reduce corruption, while supporting the growth of SMEs.
