Enabling permanent CO2 storage – for a bright future of all generations on our planet.
Info
Limiting global warming to safe levels will only be possible by globally deploying carbon removal (CDR) solutions at the scale of billions of tons of CO2. Neustark is a leading provider in this rapidly growing field, having developed a solution to permanently store CO2 from the air in recycled mineral waste such as demolished concrete. Our first solutions have been deployed in Switzerland and Europe and are already leading to a significant removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. We are currently substantially scaling up our operations and impact. By 2030, we aim to remove and store permanently one million tons of CO2 every year. Founded in 2019, neustark AG is based in Berne, Switzerland, and is a team of around 30 people (as per beg 2023). Together, we enable permanent CO2 storage for a bright future of all generations on our planet.

📢 Big news alert We are beyond thrilled to announce that neustark has secured $69 million in growth funding to expand our carbon removal solution globally! Led by Decarbonization Partners , a partnership between BlackRock and Temasek, with participation from Blume Equity, this funding will support our mission of removing 1 million tons of CO2 in 2030. The new investors join neustark’s existing backers, which are continuing their support: Holcim | Siemens Financial Services | Verve Ventures | ACE Ventures. This is one of the largest growth equity investment rounds in #carbonremoval! 🚀 We’ve already deployed our #CO2 removal solution at 19 sites across Europe – with 40 more under construction –, sold nearly 120,000 tons of #CDR certificates, and are storing ton by ton of CO2 every day. And that’s just the start! In the words of our co-CEO Johannes Tiefenthaler: “This growth investment will take us into the next exciting phase of our mission, helping us to further scale our impact across Europe, enter new markets in North America and Asia Pacific, and develop new solutions to store even more CO2 in mineral waste streams.” 🗞️ Read more in our press release: https://loom.ly/fVKnYNE

Demolished concrete: a new home for #CO2 emissions? 🏡🫧 🎬 Join Lisa Braune on a virtual site visit of our CO2 storage site and watch SWI swissinfo.ch break down our complex #mineralization process. Worldwide, more than 30 billion tons of #concrete are used every year. At neustark, we have developed a solution to durably store - and thus durably remove excessive CO2 from the air - in mineral waste streams such as demolition concrete. All whilst accelerating the #decarbonization of the build environment with our recycling partners such as Holcim. 🏗️ Our goal is to remove 1 million tons of CO2 in 2030. 🚀 While this might only cover a fraction of what's needed to reach #netzero by 2050, it is a crucial step to scale #carbonremoval at the speed and scope we need. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

“Don't shy away from corporates because of their size and complexity.” These were Andy Kollegger's opening remarks to yesterday’s SEF.Growth event with UBS, added by "Start-ups are our future, and investing in the future is certainly a good thing to do. Also, working with start-ups keeps us agile and young." 💪🏼 Johannes Tiefenthaler from neustark and Ueli Boetschi from Holcim presented their start-up-corporate Collaboration story and showed how they were ultimately able to achieve transparency and well-aligned goals by jointly developing a roadmap to 2030, which turned an initial "no" into a "yes". 🚀 Julia Ehrler from Holcim MAQER Ventures and Christian Maehr from UBS Switzerland joined the panel. These are our main takeaways: ➡️ 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆: Start-ups benefit from access to the networks and locations of international corporates. ➡️ 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: These accelerate the learning curve in product development. ➡️ 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: This reduces the risk of losing progress if one person leaves the company. ➡️ 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Corporates should have someone to help the start-up navigate the corporate environment. ➡️ 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀: Start-ups should clearly understand what they want to gain from the collaboration and communicate it clearly. A heartfelt thank you to all of the about 100 founders and young entrepreneurs who came together for these valuable insights and to UBS for hosting such a fantastic event! 💜 👉🏼 Read the full review here: https://lnkd.in/epUiJzBD Lukas Froesch | Jana Stucki | Christoph Bernhard | Alyssia Kugler

We're in it to win it! 🚀 That's how Johannes Tiefenthaler kicked off our quarterly #workshop where we align our company goals for the next three months. Even though the last two days have put our brain cells to (overly) good use 🤪, it's always high-excitement, high-impact, high-fun to have all neustarkers – from Bern, Zurich, Berlin, Cologne and Krakow – together, driven by a common purpose.🧡 But it wasn't all work, also a bit of play: our tour guide par excellence Elmar Vatter guided us through the hidden gems of our home city Bern before grabbing dinner and watching some football ⚽ Go team #neustark! Let's keep removing tons and tons of #CO2 every day towards our goal of removing 1 million tons of CO2 in 2030. Thus enabling a bright future for all generations on our planet. 🌍🌿 🍝 PS: Curious about why spaghetti marshmallows played a role at our workshop? Have a look at the pictures below!

90% reductions, 10% removals, that's the thumb rule 👍 In September 2023, according to Robert Höglund, only 0.5% of the thousands of companies with Science Based Targets initiative net zero commitments had purchased durable #carbonremoval. Eight months later, this percentage has inched to 0.6%. 📊 Neutralizing residual emissions by removing #CO2 should be a pillar to each organization's climate strategy, as #SBTi affirms: «After a company has achieved its long-term target and cut emissions by >90%, it must use permanent carbon removal and storage to counterbalance the final 10% or more of residual emissions that cannot be eliminated.» So how can we turn commitments into concrete climate action? 1️⃣ The low adoption rate of CDR demonstrates #netzero maturity. Durable CDR, although more costly, is critically needed. Suppliers and policymakers need to guide companies through their options. 2️⃣ Many people still don't fully understand #CDR. Moving companies from unaware to action requires education, patience, and #trust. Suppliers must be transparent and share methodologies certifications. Why the CDR market needs to turn from a lonely Kilimanjaro 🗻 to a Himalayan mountain range 🏔️🏔️🏔️? Explore Alexander Rink's | CDR.fyi article below.

Since 2009, the Zürcher Kantonalbank has reduced its operational #CO2 emissions by around 70%. Last year, ZKB decided to start neutralizing its ~1,800 tons p.a. of residual emissions – i.e. those that are hard-to-abate or completely unavoidable – via #negativeemissions. 🌎🌱 🚀 That's why they teamed up with neustark. At last week's swisscleantech Dialogue, Martin M. Bardenhewer, CFO of Zürcher Kantonalbank, and Lisa Braune gave insights into our fruitful partnership and how to scale #carbonremoval. In line with the event's motto: cooperation is the key to #netzero. Thanks to Marit Kruthoff, Romina Schwarz and Urs D. Baumann for joining forces and trusting neustark in this milestone cooperation to accelerate #CDR in Switzerland. 📈 And to Fabian Etter and Madeleine Guyer for organizing!
