Starting today, the MSC Foundation will host a pivotal Strategy and Planning Workshop aboard MSC Seashore, focused on the continued regeneration of marine ecosystems and coral reefs within the 64-square-mile marine reserve around Ocean Cay in The Bahamas.  This workshop will bring together leading international and local stakeholders, fostering collaboration with the aim of driving forward what we’re aiming to achieve throughour Ocean Cay Marine Programme. Central to the programme is the restoration of resilient coral-based ecosystems, the development of eco-professional expertise in The Bahamas, and the establishment of best practices for large-scale marine conservation.  As we mark five years since the programme's inception, this workshop will provide a crucial opportunity to assess the progress achieved so far, address current challenges, and design pathways for its future. A week ago, we had the pleasure of hosting the 'Tefin with the MSC Foundation for the health of our oceans' event on board MSC Grandiosa. 🌊 Introducing 'Il Mare a Scuola' – a campaign for ocean literacy 🌊 The MSC Foundation is proud to strengthen its long-term partnership with Marevivo by supporting 'Il Mare a Scuola,' a campaign aimed at making ocean literacy a core part of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools.  With the ocean generating over 50% of the oxygen we breathe, raising awareness and inspiring future generations to protect this invaluable resource is essential. By integrating ocean studies into mainstream education, we can nurture a culture of respect and sustainable practices for our marine environment. The campaign kicks off on 21st October 2024 aboard the historic Motonave Patrizia, visiting Naples, Palermo, Livorno, and Genoa, and engaging students, educators, and policymakers along the way. We are proud to present Marine Encounters, an exclusive exhibition on board EXPLORA II featuring the extraordinary marine photography of Hussain Aga Khan. In collaboration with Focused on Nature, this collection of 28 limited-edition photographs invites guests to experience the beauty and diversity of our oceans while raising awareness of the critical need to protect them. Generously donated to the MSC Foundation, these photographs go beyond art. All proceeds from sales will directly fund marine science scholarships at the University of The Bahamas, fostering the next generation of ocean conservation leaders. This exhibition is a powerful reflection of our commitment to environmental education, and we are honoured to join forces with Hussain Aga Khan and Focused on Nature to inspire action and create tangible change. We are honoured to celebrate the third edition of the Emiliano González Delgado Award for the ‘Best Tourism Final Degree Project’.  This event, held onboard the MSC World Europa in Barcelona, pays tribute to Emiliano González, the former President of MSC Cruises Spain and highlights exceptional student projects from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The MSC Foundation proudly supported this initiative for the third year running, continuing Emiliano's legacy through this award. In addition to a cash prize, the award includes a valuable internship opportunity with MSC Cruises.   This event underscores our commitment to advancing education and supporting innovation. As part of our Super Coral Programme, the MSC Foundation is dedicated to engaging and empowering local communities in the Bahamas. We recently completed one of our key first steps towards greater community engagement. This was a two-day training session with students from BAMSI The Bahamas Agriculture & Marine Science Institute, where we shared insights and knowledge on: 🔹 The MSC Foundation's global reach and programmatic initiatives 🔹 The transformation of Ocean Cay from an industrial site into a thriving conservation success story 🔹 A comprehensive review of our Super Coral Programme at Ocean Cay, highlighting the science behind our coral restoration efforts and how we’re blending education with our conservation work We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Bahamian community, fostering awareness and building strong partnerships as we work together to restore our oceans.
