What does the EUR 1.1 billion Borrowing Base Facility (BBF) mean that MET Group signed for its Sales and Trading segment? As CFO Sven Kirch, CFA explains: “The BBF is reflective of the progress MET has made not just in terms of financial strength but also continues to recognize the clarity of our approach to risk management and the growth trajectory we continue to be on.” The BBF, backed by a pool of top international banks, is a key pillar in MET Group’s funding framework particularly supporting the import of LNG, the storage and sale of natural gas in Europe and beyond. Sven Kirch, CFA adds: “We are looking forward to building on our track record and playing our role in resolving the energy trilemma of energy security, decarbonization and cost.” https://lnkd.in/dMN7qGcg

Why are renewable energy communities so important nowadays? They “help increase public perception of renewable energy projects and attract private investment in the transition to clean energy,” explains Dr. Christian Hürlimann, CEO of MET Group’s Green Assets Division, to Italian news site Rinnovabili. At the same time, these communities “have the potential to provide direct benefits to citizens by increasing energy efficiency, reducing electricity bills and creating local job opportunities”. Italian subsidiary MET Energia Italia is actually expanding its activities towards renewable energy communities, planning to build renewable generation plants with capacities between 100 kW and 1 MW. The main objective? “To offer innovative and tailor-made solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact in various industrial and commercial sectors,” says CEO Giuseppe Rebuzzini. https://lnkd.in/d2epS6fK

Another important step on the way to creating a greener future: Swiss-based renewable energy investment platform Keppel MET Renewables (KMR) completed the purchase of a 100% stake in two photovoltaic projects in the Italian regions of Piedmont and Lombardy. “The closing of this transaction marks a key milestone in our ambition to build a portfolio of state-of-the-art wind and solar projects across the European Union. We are fully committed to playing an active role in Europe’s energy transition,” said Luke Gillott, CEO of KMR, the equal joint venture between MET Group and Singapore-based Keppel (Infrastructure Division). Both solar projects were developed by Italian clean energy company ReFeel New Energy (RNE), a solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) platform, a joint venture with the SUSI Energy Transition Fund, a fund managed by Swiss-based energy transition investment specialist SUSI Partners. https://lnkd.in/dmYFN-nP

How can natural gas support the ongoing green transition? This is what the CEO of MET Energía España, Angel Crespo explains in leading business newspaper Expansión: “As we move forward with the ambitious deployment of renewable energies, the need to guarantee security of supply and grid stability will increase.” Natural gas, as a so-called back-up energy source, provides flexibility and system security in the face of weather-dependent renewable energy production. Back-up technologies include combined cycle plants, cogeneration with natural gas, and batteries. Angel Crespo adds: “We must not forget that in Spain we have a very large cycle generation park, which currently positions it as one of the most realistic and sustainable options.” https://lnkd.in/d6fyP5hN

Did you know that the oldest windmills are known from Persia, Tibet and China, and they have been around in Europe since the 12th century? This is what Bruno Habegger, author of an article on wind energy published by the Swiss electricity magazine (“Strom-Magazin”), found out. In his article, he writes that Switzerland is still kind of a wind development country. But the potential is considerable: If only 1.000 wind turbines were built, this would correspond to a production of around 9 TWh of wind power per year - almost 6 of which in winter, when the country usually suffers from a lack of electricity.   A study carried out by MET Group on the conditions of wind energy has clearly shown that the special wind and weather conditions in Switzerland are favourable for wind turbines on the Central Plateau between the Jura and the north side of the Alps, in the foothills north of the Alps or along the Alpine passes. The wind often blows when the rotors abroad are already turning more slowly and imports are not an alternative. This makes the electricity produced by Swiss windmills particularly valuable.   With regard to wind power in Switzerland, Dr. Christian Hürlimann, CEO Renewables at MET, says: "Wind locations can lead to the diversification of the production mix and the value of the electricity generated." At the same time, he points out that Switzerland needs a mix of different production technologies that complement each other. "Wind is clearly part of the family," he says, "it's solar energy's brother."   https://lnkd.in/gCC-jx4s

Important milestone for the market-based renewable energy business in Spain: In the context of two 10-year #PPAs, MET Energía España will acquire the electricity generated by Prosolia Energy Group’s Sant Jordi PV plant, to supply 100% green energy to Atlantic Copper, the world’s second largest copper producer, through independent trader FORTIA ENERGIA. The agreements are a clear indication of MET Group’s commitment to long-term innovative solutions that create added value for both renewable energy producers and large industrial customers. The conclusion of these two PPAs is based on close cooperation between MET Energía España and MET International AG, the trading division of MET Group. The value chain from power producers to energy consumers requires the interim services and capabilities of both energy suppliers such as MET Energía España and traders such as MET International. Energy suppliers like MET Energía España are ensuring that the physical electricity gets to the end customer. Energy traders like MET International are playing a key role in providing risk management and product structuring services, turning the solar generation profile into a standard product usable by suppliers build their end customer supply. In short, all of the mentioned players – producer, trader, and supplier - are essential to this green electricity supply chain before the green energy can actually get to the end consumer as a marketable product. Otherwise the end customer itself would have to take the large market risks associated to the changes in price levels, time structure of the market and intermittent production volumes. https://lnkd.in/ejz9vw66

Lively teambuilding event in Naples under the sign of a new chapter: This year’s offsite of MET Group’s Green Assets division marked a significant milestone as it was the first time for many colleagues to meet Clive Turton in person, who started as Executive Chairman of the division on June 1. In his presentation to the team, Clive outlined his ambitious vision for MET Group’s renewable energy business, and his clear goals for the future had everyone excited about the direction the team is heading in. Later, in highly productive workshops and breakout sessions, colleagues focused on market analysis and business development topics, fostering creative solutions and strategic plans to address the opportunities in the European renewable energy sector. The teambuilding event was rounded off with a guided tour of Naples’ rich history and vibrant culture, and the highlight of the casual program – a hands-on pizza workshop where the team learned the art of preparing traditional Neapolitan pizza dough and tasted the homemade pizzas to experience first-hand the flavors that make Naples so famous.

MET Romania continues its long-standing partnership with the NGO Teach for Romania in the city of Iasi, during the Concord Iasi Open tennis tournament powered by MET. On this occasion, MET Group’s Romanian team was happy to create a special experience for 32 students from Oțeleni School, who watched a professional tennis match for the first time. At the tennis stadium in Iasi, the children received personalized gifts and introductory books about tennis, designed to further spark their interest in the sport, each of them already being a "champion in the making". To find out more about tennis, the students had the opportunity to talk to Alexandra Dulgheru, one of Romania's best-known tennis players. She shared her experiences with the kids and signed the books they received. The initiative reinforces MET Romania's commitment to supporting education and providing opportunities for young people from disadvantaged communities. MET is happy to contribute to the educational and personal development of children and continue the long-standing collaboration with Teach for Romania.
