A Record $2.2m raised by the Shipping and Trading community for Cargo Day 2023: The Shipping and Trading community has done it again and even more! We are absolutely ecstatic about the fundraising campaign’s final result! In 2022, $2 million was raised. This year, that amount was surpassed by almost $200’000! At a whopping $2.2 million, the Shipping and Trading community has broken the previous record in enthusiastic generosity that brings even more life-saving health care to those that need it! The Shipping and Trading community’s great achievement, which was accomplished this year, was matching the $2m! Yet, it hadn’t quite crossed the threshold she inwardly envisioned. That all changed just before posting this year’s final total! A pledge arrived that crossed that goal line to more than $2.1m! The next day, moments before sending the total off to be printed, a pledge came in that brought 2023’s total to more than 2.2 million dollars! The Shipping and Trading community really came through! We all at Mercy Ships are celebrating and could not be more excited to see these fantastic, generous, charitable results the Shipping and Trading community made possible!!! 🚢💙 We are absolutely privileged to announce that Mercy Ships Cargo Day 2023 has again received incredible fundraising support from the global shipping and trading community! Together, we are making a significant impact on the lives of those in need. So far, an outstanding $1.6 million has been raised through the combined efforts of 55 Mercy Cargoes, 12 address commissions, and 38 generous pledges. This is another record-breaking amount since the inception of Mercy Ships Cargo Day in 2016. The ship surgeons rebuilding lives in Africa Surgeon Dr Gary Parker and his family have spent as much time on ships over the past four decades as the most seasoned of seafarers. The US oral and maxillofacial specialist work has put his unique skills to work in the operating theatres of hospital ships that sail to countries where the need for healthcare is the greatest. Now focusing exclusively on Africa, the Mercy Ships charity, which runs two converted hospital ships, has carried out more than 110,000 operations since it was set up in 1978. Parker has been present and working flat out for most of that time.
