Artificial devices have been proposed as a solution to improve the quality of life of those living with neurological disorders. 🧠 For neuroprothesis development, understanding the behavior of neurons and their connection and interaction with artificial neural networks is important. A recent study published in Nature Communications Nature Portfolio introduces BIOmimetic EMUlation Single compartment (BiœmuS) – a biomimetic tool that allows to perform biohybrid experiments for real-time replication of living systems. 🔬 Congratulations to Romain Beaubois and all the authors, under the supervision of Timothée Levi and Pascal Branchereau, SMART - University of Bordeaux, Yoshiho Ikeuchi, The University of Tokyo, and Michela Chiappalone, Università degli Studi di Genova, for this outstanding work! 👏 In this study, the researchers showcase the versatility and user-friendliness of BiœmuS, integrating it with both in vivo and in vitro models in the context of closed-loop applications. The goal was to recapitulate electrophysiological features of these models. The researchers worked with connected organoids plated on the MaxOne HD-MEA chip for PDMS applications, and performed closed-loop biomimetically driven stimulation. Excitingly, they observed that the closed-loop successfully triggered stimulation in both systems. 🔍 Overall, BiœmuS is a low-cost and flexbile tool that enables effortless communication with biological networks in electrophysiology systems such as HD-MEA. Its practicality expands BiœmuS’ potential for real-world applications in biohybrid experiments. We can’t wait to see how this tool develops in the neurocomputing field! ✨ Read the full publication here: https://lnkd.in/djTyD_wt #MaxOne #organoid #electrophysiology #neurocomputing

We were thrilled to be back at the Girls Go Mint 2024 program at Kantonsschule Baden last week! 🌟 This amazing initiative inspires young women to pursue STEM fields in their further education. 🎓 Our workshop on Neuroscience was a blast! 🤩 We started with a fascinating look at how the brain controls our muscles. 💪 Students measured their bicep contractions using electromyograms (EMGs) and even controlled a robotic arm with their muscles! The highlight? Controlling each other’s movements for a truly interactive and unforgettable experience. 🙌 Thank you to our experts, Dr. Silvia Oldani, PhD and Dr. Praveena Manogaran, for making this workshop a success! 🙏 #GirlsGoMint #STEM #neuroscience
