Unlocking fashion's transformation 🔓 Fashion for Good was conceived to drive the fashion industry to be a force for good. Our Director of Industry Programmes Amol Mehra caught up with Fashion for Good's Managing Director Katrin Ley to dive into their renewed strategy, focusing on enabling the widespread adoption and scale of innovations and the four unlocks to driving fashion's transformation. 🤝 Convenings that bring together tangible solutions, a spirit of collaboration, intent, and action are critical, and that’s what this year’s #FutureFabricsExpo supplied in large doses. 2024 marks the 11th year of the expo initiated by Laudes Foundation partner The Sustainable Angle, which continues to showcase next-gen solutions to the industry with over 5000 exhibitors this year. 💬 Driving the conversation around scaling circular systems around waste reduction, our Director of Industry Programmes Amol Mehra moderated a panel session with our partner Fashion for Good, together with Circle-8 Textile Ecosystems, NewRetex A/S and Paradise Textiles, unpicking the barriers and levers to unlock with brands, suppliers and manufacturers. The conclusions: - Collaboration is critical to taking ideas from seed to scale - Joint commitments, financing and coordinated action across the value chain is required - For innovators it’s critical to focus on continuous impact and optimising R&D - Brands need to signal demand, make and honour commitments, set and embed KPIs throughout the organisation - Supportive policy and regulation, alongside an evolving capital stack that scales with innovators is vital. 🔗 Read more about our work in the fashion industry on our renewed website. https://lnkd.in/e7jwk9c5 #CircularFashion #NextGen

Next gen IS this gen. The movement to next-gen materials is a certainty. Findings from our partner Sustainabelle Advisory Services’s new report "Next Gen to This Gen: Scaling Material Innovations in the Fashion Sector”, reveal insights from across the supply chain that indicate a shift to better materials is imminent. Consumers are demanding more from brands to provide better materials and more circular solutions. Brands are increasingly open to embracing new materials that can ease supply chain risks, comply with regulations, help them meet ambitious climate impact targets by lowering their footprint. Climate tech sectors like solar and EVs have laid a path that fashion can confidently follow to implement next-gen materials in their supply chains and products. Across the industry, coordinated action can effectively realise material innovations today!

🌍 Advancing Just Transitions in the Built Environment: Why It Matters 🏠 Our partner, the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB), has released an essential report titled "Advancing Just Transitions in the Built Environment," based on two years of global research. This study highlights the significant social impacts of climate action in cities like Lagos, Prague, Melbourne, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Jakarta, Valparaíso, and Athens. The report emphasizes the need for an equitable climate transition, ensuring that changes in industry and finance benefit residents and workers, embracing a new economic model. A major focus is housing, a human right. With 100 million Europeans financially overburdened by housing costs, and housing inequality rising, the report reveals a 700% increase in investor-owned housing since the global financial crisis, showing the profound impact of corporate landholdings on housing security. Housing was a cornerstone policy for many parties in the recent EU Elections, and this report offers crucial insights into the social impacts of climate action.
