How can we minimise the environmental impact of the Olympic Games? They require a substantial logistical undertaking, with the host country preparing for years to welcome more than 11,000 athletes and hundreds of thousands of spectators. Sustainability and conserving nature are now central components in the planning of the Olympic Games, based in large part on the International Olympic Committee's new strategic roadmap, longstanding partnerships with organisations like IUCN, and new initiatives like Sports for Nature. In our new blog, Marie Sallois from the International Olympic Committee – IOC talks about sports and #nature. https://bit.ly/3zdpoNi #Paris2024

    Director General at IUCN

#Partnership and #collaboration are key when it comes to working towards our goal of nature #conservation. And when we are able to have meaningful conversation and build strong relationships with those who share the same goal, we get a step closer to achieving them. Which is why it was such a pleasure to be able to host our friends from the China’s Ministry of Natural Resources at our IUCN office in Switzerland. We were very happy and grateful to spend an afternoon with the Vice Minister, Dr Zhuang Shaoqin, members of his delegation as well as officials from the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland. We had a deeply fulfilling discussion on our shared goals, especially in the area of Nature Based Solutions and the importance of working with #Nature when it comes to the conservation of our natural world. We also discussed how IUCN and the Ministry can continue to work closely together – sharing tools and knowledge as well as collaborating and supporting each other in our various initiatives. We want to thank Dr Zhuang and his team for making the trip to Switzerland and for the open and meaningful conversation we were able to share. IUCN looks forward to deepening our relationship with our partners in China, to continue to work closely together and to build on our shared goals – with the well-being of the planet firmly at the centre of it all.
