Info
Created in 2009, the ITACET Foundation is a non-profit organization whose aim is to organize, promote and sponsor training and education actions in the field of tunnelling and underground space use. The activities organized by the Foundation are aimed at ITA-AITES Member Nations, young engineers, geologists, consultants, policy makers…. The Foundation has an international network of more than 130 lecturers, who are renowned specialists from the academic and industrial world. Since its creation, the Foundation has organized over 60 training and education actions, principally in the form of short courses and seminars. It has trained over 6000 people in 20 countries. The Portfolio (catalogue) of the courses offered by the Foundation is developed by the ITA-CET Committee of ITA-AITES. Courses are currently offered on 20 different topics, such as Innovations in Tunnelling, Mechanized and Conventional Tunnelling, Health and Safety during Construction, Underground Space Use, Principles of Tunnel Design...... On its creation in 2009, the Foundation was declared to be the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association's (ITA-AITES) executive body for education and training actions. The council of the Foundation is formed as follows: - Abdullah AL-MOGBEL (Saudi Arabia), President - Piergiorgio GRASSO (Geodata, Italy), Vice-President - Felix AMBERG (CUC, Switzerland), Secretary and Treasurer - Martin HERRENKNECHT (Herrenknecht, Germany) - Tarcisio CELESTINO (ITA-AITES President, Brazil) - Sherif WISSA AGAIBY (DAR AL-HANDASAH Consultants, Egypt)

#training #tunnelling #EPB This month’s Lunchtime Lecture Series will focus on’ EPB tunnelling: Environmental aspects and re-use opportunities of the conditioned muck' in collaboration with ITA-AITES WG15. The rapid development of mechanised tunnelling in the last decades has increased the tunnelling community’s focus on the environmental aspects of tunnel construction. The excavation carried out by using EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) machines often requires the use of foaming agents, specific products that are added to the medium intended to be excavated, in order to make the excavation process possible. The produced muck can be considered more than a simple “landfill material” and its re-use is strongly suggested in view of sustainable excavation and circular economy principles. However, the correct management process should be followed. This process should take into account the presence of the used additives in the mucking itself. The episode will feature the following speakers: - The conditioning phase in EPB tunnelling and the issue of muck disposal – Carmine Todaro - Environmental aspects of the conditioning phase, chemical profile of foaming agents and the biodegradation process: the Italian approach before muck re-use – Anna Barra Caracciolo - Muck: raw material for industrial production; mineralogical and chemical analysis and its use on construction sites - Robert Galler Free registration: https://lnkd.in/diWHVD_Y Can’t make it at that time? ITACET LUNCHTIME LECTURE SERIES JULY 2024 📅 July 9th 2024, 13:00 CET This month’s Lunchtime Lecture Series, as organised by ITACET Foundation for Continuous Education and Training on Tunnelling and Underground Space Use, will focus on Health & Safety lessons from recent projects. The last decades have shown an increasing number of incidents in tunnels during construction which has outlined the need for fire and rescue operations under atypical conditions. Thus, emergency managements needs to be an integral part of the Health and Safety measures on tunnel construction sites. It is of the utmost importance to include emergency response organizations as early as possible, starting in the planning phase. Tunnel construction sites or similar subsurface structures e.g. hydro power plants, with their complex network of tunnels, cross passages and caverns, call for specific considerations and in-depth knowledge of emergency organizations, emergency procedures, smoke management and other risks which might occur during the construction phase. The characteristics of fire and smoke spread in tunnels under construction are different from those in tunnels under operation, due to the more confined space. Escape routes can therefore be long and ventilation can be challenging. This episode will feature the following speakers and topics: Tunnel disaster response - an introduction in emergency management during construction phase - Michael Halwachs Emergency management in long deep tunnels during construction phase: smoke management and evacuation strategy - Walter Lanciano Register to attend the online webinar here: https://lnkd.in/eT4Zv3iZ Follow the British Tunnelling Society for the latest insight on tunnel-related matters To learn about the benefits of joining the British Tunnelling Society click here: https://bit.ly/3r0MPoU #BritishTunnellingSociety #civilengineering #undergroundconstruction #tunnelling
