The IPCC is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.
Info
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. In the same year, the UN General Assembly endorsed the action by WMO and UNEP in jointly establishing the IPCC. The IPCC is a scientific body. It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure an objective and complete assessment of current information. IPCC aims to reflect a range of views and expertise. The Secretariat coordinates all the IPCC work and liaises with Governments. It is supported by WMO and UNEP and hosted at WMO headquarters in Geneva.

Introducing Singapore’s IPCC Working Group II Technical Support Unit (TSU) for IPCC’s seventh assessment cycle! We welcome the new staff joining the TSU and the IPCC Secretariat is looking forward to working with you throughout this cycle. IPCC is also grateful to the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore, and the Singapore Management University for hosting the TSU. Together, let's make this seventh cycle impactful and productive.
Co-Chair, Working Group II IPCC AR7 - Professor of Urban Climate & Lee Kong Chian Research Fellow, Singapore Management University - Co-Lead Principal Investigator, Cooling Singapore - Lead, SULTREE Lab
Introducing Singapore’s Working Group II Technical Support Unit (TSU) for IPCC’s 7th Assessment Cycle! It’s been a year since the IPCC elections, and we have built our lean team of five full-time staff who are based in the Singapore Management University (and Dr. Xin Rong Chua, who is attached from Centre for Climate Research Singapore but isn't pictured) For the first time, we have a Working Group TSU that is split between two teams based in Singapore and in Deltares. It's fundamental to have a strong TSU helping the Co-chairs (Bart van den Hurk and myself) to facilitate and develop the #WGII Assessment Report, and also the #SpecialReport on #ClimateChange and #Cities as well as the update to the 1994 IPCC #TechnicalGuidelines for Assessing Climate Change #Impacts and #Adaptations. Here’s a brief introduction of who we have here in Singapore: - Theresa Wong, Ph.D serves as the Head of Science; - Mukesh GUPTA, Ph.D. serves as the Science Officer; - Samantha T. serves as the Deputy Head of Operations; - Wahab Sahari serves as the Information Technology Officer; - Qiyun Woo serves as the Senior Communications Manager; Thank you to Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore and Singapore Management University for your unwavering support in hosting the TSU here in Singapore! 🙏 We're looking forward to the good work we get to do as a team over the next 5 years! 💪

#NowReading From the rapid development of new technologies to competition for natural resources, the world is increasingly affected by global crises that are not just amplifying and accelerating but appear to be synchronizing with devastating consequences. This new UNEP Global Foresight Report in partnership with the International Science Council provides insights on 8 critical global shifts that exacerbate the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. This week the World Meteorological Organization reported, according to Copernicus ECMWF, that June was the hottest on record, and the global temperature has been 1.5°C above the pre-industrial era for the 13th month in a row. IPCC’s Synthesis Report shows adaptation options are more constrained and less effective in a warmer world. ➡️ https://bit.ly/SRYRpt23
