The System Change Foundation Fellowship 2025 kicked off last week on a sunny afternoon with a breathtaking view over St. Gallen! The Warm-Up Apéro was the first onboarding gathering of the group of HSG fellows with the co-mentors Monica Barroso, PhD and Jost Hamschmidt from the Universität St.Gallen (HSG) and Rudolf Hilti from The System Change Foundation where they could share expectations, intentions and learn more about each other and the collective mission that awaits the group => the World Systemic Forum 2025, an annual event gathering some of the most influential minds to collaborate on the potential for future ways of living and catalyse system change! What an honour to be an academic partner of nexBio Amazônia, a bilateral bioeconomy innovation program led by Swissnex in Brazil to act as a platform and catalyst for new partnerships and innovation projects between Switzerland and Brazil to develop and implement projects and solutions that contribute to a sustainable bioeconomy. Faced with the threat of climate change and biodiversity loss, the main objective is to rapidly kick-start and implement solutions that improve the sustainability and efficiency of existing production chains. 🌱 🌿 🌳 Together with STARTUP@HSG and Institute of Management in Latin America - University of St.Gallen we from ITEM's Sustainability Innovation Lab, led by our postdoc senior researcher Monica Barroso, PhD, have hosted the nexBio Pre-Departure Masterclass, a hybrid session to offer the program's participants a first dive into the complexities of the Amazonian context related to the climate crisis and the opportunities to advance bioeconomy-based enterprises by Vanessa Boanada Fuchs 🌎 🐾 Also, the participating startups had an initial glimpse into the St. Galler Business Model Innovation and Startup Navigator approaches from our in-house experts Maximilian Palmié and Maria-Luisa Fuchs at the inspiring MakerSpace@HSG and online 🐛 🦋 We are grateful to be part of such an exciting and relevant endeavour, and look forward to the results of the first cohort after the forthcoming joint expedition in the heart of the Amazon forest to exchange knowledge and advance business models towards a sustainable bioeconomy-based economy 🚀 🌳 Special thanks to the program's partners Sesc, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), Instituto Peabiru, Deyvison Medrado, Carlos Eduardo de Andrade Lima da Rocha, Institute of Management in Latin America - University of St.Gallen and to our collaborating partners Dr. Rocío Robinson-Wiedemann, Letícia Vargas, Pedro Capra Vieira, Vincent Neumann, Simone Ramseier and of course to all participating startups from 🇧🇷 and 🇨🇭! Can reflection boost student inner development? Early-stage edtech startup Rflect is on a mission to help universities foster a habit of inner development in their students and they have just published their first white paper on the web app's effectiveness in autumn semester 2023. Student users self-reported an improvement in all tested dimensions, with significant improvements in Self-Awareness, Goal-Setting and Emotional Maturity. Monica Barroso, PhD from ITEM's Sustainability Innovation Lab has been supporting Rflect and Anna Jasinenko on their impact assessment efforts in 2024. Thanks also to Maximilian Palmié and Selina Lorenz for collaborating with the forthcoming impact study.
