What if Europe's most important rail freight corridor is closed for weeks and no adequate diversion routes are in place? Hupac has developed an innovative #dieselshuttle service via #France, thus doubling the capacity for freight trains and offering P400 transport solutions during costruction works on the Rhine Valley line in August 2024. "A pioneering project, made possible by the cooperation of DB InfraGO, SNCF Réseau, SBB Cargo International and Captrain France", says Hupac CEO Michail Stahlhut. "Thanks to this initiative, we will be able to cover 80% of the transport demand in August and thus significantly support industrial supply". Great efforts are being made to ensure smooth operations during this critical phase. "Our #control #centre will be in contact with the railways and terminals around the clock to manage any disruptions or irregularities", underlines Alessandro Valenti, director Shuttle Net. Just arrived! A new #shunting #locomotive has joined our fleet in Italy, ready to boost the train-in/train-out service at our #intermodal #terminals in Busto Arsizio and Piacenza. Our railway company Hupac SpA manages 8 shunting locomotives at the Busto Arsizio, Pordenone and Piacenza terminals, as well as 4 mainline locomotives for short distance traffic between terminals and workshops in northern Italy. The shunting locomotives operate around the clock and are managed by a team of 40 drivers. "The new locomotive is crucial for increasing the #resilience and #productivity of the terminals - a much-needed measure to ensure the stability of the service and to counteract the increasing irregularity of train arrivals", says Marco Bottazzi, Head of RU Hupac SpA. Coming soon: new transhipment terminal Piacenza, ready to start operations in Q1 2025. #railfreight #intermodality #sustainability #greenlogistics

"What can #intermodal do for my logistics?" Many answers were given yesterday at the Intermodal Solutions Open Day at #Ploiesti Intermodal Terminal (Bucarest) - a common initiative of the strong partnership of Intermodal Services Terminal Ploiesti and Hupac. Loredana-Gabriela S., General Manager Intermodal Services, Ueli Maurer, Head of Intermodal Network Bertschi Group, Thijs Konings, Regional Sales & Account Manager #ECSEuropean Containers, Hupac Group, #CiprianPopa, General Manager #MAES, presented and shared insightful vision about the combined transport for performance-oriented, sustainable and climate-friendly transport. Alberto Grisone, Director Network Development, highlighted the opportunities within the vast intermodal network of Hupac Group : "We connect Ploiesti to strategic hubs such as Vienna, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Duisburg and Ludwigshafen. From there, your consignments reach any destination of our broad intermodal network." Special thanks for the excellent organisation of the event to the team of the Intermodal&Logistics Magazine. "Forget about miracles - the power is in us" - this is the conclusion of Michail Stahlhut at today's #IntermodalForum in Lugano. A big THANK YOU to the keynote speakers, the panelists, and all our guests from the world of intermodal transport! Some voices from the Digitalisation Panel: Hans-Joerg Bertschi: 25% of intermodal revenues are spent on office work with isolated planning and manual data entry in non-integrated data environments - digitalisation is a lever of productivity in our hands. Heiko Krebs: DXI enables machine2machine data exchange along the value chain - the more partners use this common language, the easier intermodal transport will be. Ben Beirnaert: I do not want to insert PDF files into our IT systems. I expect a machine to do that. #MichaelBaechler: All 300 terminals we work with should be linked to a single process ecosystem. Aldo Puglisi: "We are ready to start a sectoral initiative to define processes across Europe on a neutral basis to make intermodal transport simple and efficient. Emanuele Arcese: We need to solve the basics: quality, reliability of the service. Yes, digitalisation helps. When we fly, the processes are identical in all airports - we should just copy the principle. The Capacity Panel was introduced by Peter Füglistaler: Switzerland has invested heavily in infrastructure for freight. We will continue our modal shift policy. And we want to give rail freight the chance to become sustainably profitable. Carlo Palasciano: Financial resources are scarce all over Europe - we need to develop new ways of financing and increasing capacity. Björn Schniederkötter: With today's unstable performance, we are forced to invest in stocks. Renzo Capanni: We gain capacity AND we increase productivity by using longer trains. And we are investing in bypasses to ensure reliability in case of disruptions. Sanja C. Magdeburg: From a shipper's perspective, it's amazing to see what's already being done in terms of digitalisation. Do more of it and get shippers involved - I'm passionate about making an active contribution. UIRR has a reinforced leadership: Michail Stahlhut is the new President, while Jürgen Albersmann will act as Vice-President. "Intermodal transport is THE solution for connecting European economies", says Michail Stahlhut. "Let's move forward with the standardisation and digitalisation of our sector, but also with good legislation that will allow us to achieve our growth target: first of all, the revision of the #CombinedTransportDirective and a regulation that supports the availability of capacity on the #EuropeanRailInfrastructure". The UIRR now around 50 members, representing the vast majority of #IntermodalTransport in Europe. Founded in 1970, the association has a strong focus on the development and dissemination of standards and best practices in the areas of #supplychainvisibility, #terminalmanagement, #railcars and other operational aspects.
