The heartbeat of the GMT Balancier Convexe, revered for its exceptional timekeeping precision, is a testimony to our remarkable level of craftsmanship. The 30° inclined balance wheel, appearing as if it is floating in mid-air, is supported by a stunningly flat black-polished and barrel-polished steel bridge, held aloft by polished steel pillars. To the right, the small seconds display, featuring a blue-gold hand, completes the composition. The titanium bridges, which serve as the aesthetic backdrop for this horological marvel, are meticulously hand-finished with a steel brush, creating a frosted texture never before seen from Greubel Forsey. These delicate frosted surfaces reflect light beautifully, highlighting the globe, which remains the centerpiece of the display. The Balancier Convexe S² in Carbon Fiber affirms its place in the Haute Horlogerie of today and tomorrow as a timepiece that sacrifices nothing to the excellence of high-end watchmaking. Making the complex shape of the Balancier Convexe S² case out of carbon is new in Fine watchmaking. Technically, it was quite a challenge: It requires a precise combination of temperature and pressure. Heat makes the carbon more flexible to work with; pressure gives it its shape. A conventional case usually requires 2 tonnes of pressure per square centimetre. For Greubel Forsey's signature convex case, it was necessary to apply 16 tonnes: 8 times more than is conventional.
