📝New paper: "A call to bridge the diagnostic gap: diagnostic solutions for neonatal sepsis in low- and middle-income countries" co-authored by Birgitta G. et al. LMICs bear the brunt of neonatal mortality, with sepsis as a major culprit. The lack of specific symptoms and reliable diagnostics means sepsis often goes under- or overdiagnosed, leading to either harmful delays or unnecessary treatments. Early intervention is key, but widespread use of antibiotics to combat sepsis has fueled antimicrobial resistance (#AMR).🦠 Affordable, accurate point-of-care tests could be a game changer—saving lives and supporting antimicrobial stewardship. With increased investment, we can develop vital tools like: 👉 Screening tests for primary care to guide hospital referrals 👉 In-hospital tests to tailor treatments and reduce overuse of antibiotics Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/en7KyYij

We are happy to announce a strengthened partnership between FIND and the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)! Dr Ayoade Alakija (FIND Board Chair) and Dr Ifedayo Adetifa (FIND Chief Transformation Officer/CEO) met with Dr David Walton, MD MPH, PMI Global Malaria Coordinator, in Washington D.C., to discuss ongoing efforts and challenges in tackling #malaria and #AMR. 🦟 Together, we are advancing access to life-saving malaria diagnostics and pushing forward on a shared mission: ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against malaria and that tests reach where they are needed most. 🗣️ Dr Walton said, “FIND plays a critical role in the global health infrastructure as a leader in diagnostics, driving innovation, and building partnerships with governments, industry and civil society that drive access to the communities most affected by diseases like malaria.” As #ClimateChange fuels the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, Chikungunya, dengue, and Zika, we remain committed to delivering the right tools for timely diagnosis and treatment. Over the past year, the National Centre for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) and the National #TB and #HIV programs in #Mongolia have collaborated—supported by ourselves and The Global Fund— to strategically plan the cost-effective expansion of diagnostic networks. 🧪🔍 A major milestone was achieved with the dissemination of Diagnostic Network Optimization (#DNO) recommendations at a workshop hosted by the Ministry of Health and Sports Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. This marks a significant step towards expanding molecular testing for TB and HIV! 🙌 A huge shoutout to our dedicated staff Dr Archana Beri, MD, Jessica Markby, and Vipin Kumar for their invaluable support in making this possible. Thank you to the NCCD, Program Coordination Unit, and The Global Fund for taking a data-driven approach to this critical diagnostic expansion!

🌐 As we approach the upcoming UN High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (#AMR), it's crucial to spotlight the diagnostic challenges many healthcare systems face, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Many hospitals in LMICs still depend on traditional culture-based methods, where bacteria from patient samples must be cultured to identify the pathogen and determine antibiotic resistance. This process can take 2-3 days—critical time that can delay proper treatment. Despite the proven ability of diagnostics to optimize antibiotic use, ensuring accurate and timely, diagnostics remain inaccessible and underutilized in many regions. At FIND, we are working with partners to increase access to testing for AMR related infections at the primary care level. We must address the need for better access and utilization of diagnostics to combat AMR effectively! Stay tuned as the UN HLM on AMR unfolds and check out the livestream: https://lnkd.in/e64smPvR
