Info
The European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR), founded in 1970, is a non-profit organization promoting basic and clinical science related to dermatology. The ESDR is the largest investigative dermatology society in Europe with a current membership of over 1200. By supporting investigative dermatology, the ESDR contributes towards improving the health of patients suffering from skin and venereal disease. Applications of recent scientific advances have produced diagnostic and therapeutic innovations in dermatological practice, particularly in genetics, skin cancer, allergic skin disease, infectious disease and autoimmune diseases. The ESDR facilitates exchange of information relevant to investigative dermatology between clinicians and scientists worldwide. One of the most important activities of our Society is to promote the presentation of new research data and ideas at our annual scientific meeting and clinically oriented symposia. The ESDR also organises educational events throughout the year to further knowledge in dermatological research.

Sunlight: Time for a Rethink? Thank you Professor Richard Weller for writing this perspective article for JID!!! (btw it’s open access: https://lnkd.in/dfukrUYM ) A quote by Richard “Although well-intentioned, the current dermatology approach to sunlight only considers skin health, in particular, risks of skin cancers and photoaging, and fails to take into account systemic health benefits and modern research on mechanisms through which sunlight affects overall health.” #derm #derma #dermatology #dermatologia #dermatologie #dermatologist #dermatologists #dermatologista #dermresearch #dermscience #dermatologyresearch #skinresearch #sunlight #sunprotection #jid #sun #uvlight #dermresearch

The article is out ! "A European Roundtable “Addressing Under-Prioritized Skin Diseases: Policy Responses to High-Burden Conditions”, February 6, 2024" published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology https://lnkd.in/d5xyTHPM "The International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations (also known as GlobalSkin) and the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR) cohosted an online Roundtable “Addressing Under-Prioritized #SkinDiseases: Policy Responses to High-Burden Conditions” on February 6, 2024. This initiative was prompted by the European Commission’s 2023 discussion paper entitled “Scoping Study on Evidence to Address High-Burden Under-Researched Medical Conditions” in which #skin and subcutaneous diseases were identified as one of the 12 therapeutic areas defined as high burden and under-researched. The event convened a diverse array of experts, #policymakers, and stakeholders in the field of #dermatology and #publichealth. Speakers formulated a set of policy recommendations aimed to address the current challenges in dermatology, proposing actionable strategies to foster greater awareness, allocate resources effectively, and enact supportive #publichealthpolicies." GlobalSkin - International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations and the ESDR co-published an article in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology today! https://lnkd.in/dhMQtH6w The article summarizes an event that we co-hosted in February which aimed to respond to the European Union's 2023 Discussion Paper, "Scoping study on evidence to tackle high-burden under-researched medical conditions." https://lnkd.in/dqmTsUd3. We convened experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from the dermatology and public health sectors. Notably, the event featured a Special Address by Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Security. The discussions focused on shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals with under-prioritized skin diseases and crafting comprehensive policy responses to enhance their quality of life. Participants were encouraged to engage actively in this important dialogue to drive meaningful change in addressing under-researched skin conditions.#skindiseases #dermatology #EU
